Rx-8 question from a new owner :)

Hello all!!

I just got my new RX-8. 2004 winning blue, GT package, 6cd changer, Nav, appereance package, and rotarty accents. So far the car is great.

Put new tires on today.. Toyo Proxes 4 all weathers 225/45r18's and they ride almost like the OEM Potenzas but they are rated for mud and snow, and the dealer even gave me an oil change since they didn't when I picked up the car. I was told by the technician, ABSOLUTELY NO SYNTHETIC OIL. He made himself very clear about this.

Anyway my question is.. When I have the car in nuetral and the clutch out I hear what sounds like a vibrating noise. With the clutch in the noise goes away. You really can't hear it in the car. It really isn't that loud at all, you need the door open to hear it. I was just wondering if this was normal... The car shifts nice and smooth with no problems thus far or any grinding noises. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that noise.

Other than that the car has been great so far.. knock on wood and I am very happy with it.. Traded in a 2004 Nissan Maxima.

As soon as I get past the break in period I will post my gas mileage. I do a lot of highway driving.

Thanks for all of your help in answering my questions about this car before purchasing it.

All of us suffer from roll over noise in the tranny - just get a louder exhaust

so this is normal then?

Oh yeah this reminds me. The salesman recommended I buy the K&N Typhoon air intake... How well does it work?

Yes, and save your money and review the Racing Beat intake when it finally comes out. There might be some Typhoon's in the used parts forum you could pick up for cheap. Some owners are buying Turbos and dropping their intakes for sale there. Personally, I'm waiting for Racing Beat.

that noise you are hearing is the throwout bearing. it's a noisy sucker, but it doesn't seem to be bad in mine...just yet.

You could change to a synthetic oil for the tranny like Redline or Royal Purple. It seemed to help quiet mine down a bit. It holds barely less than 2 quarts, so it should not cost much.

Yeah like I said. The noise can only be heard with the door open and the radio off.

I just want to make sure there was nothing wrong with the car.. I freak out whenever I hear weird noises. My maxima didn't have that issue so it is new to me. But can't hear it inside the car.

That K&N Typhoon intake.. I have seen pics of it.. I am wondering is it even worth getting..

this car makes many noises you have probably not heard on previous cars. most of them are related to various self checks the car goes thru when you turn the car on or shut it off. so be prepared to do some searching on here for the next couple of months while you freak out over various noises...

i'd wait a bit and see what other companies are offering. i'm waiting for someone to make one of those velocity intakes made of carbon fiber.

Well as long as it is normal..

I figured that it was because it didn't sound like it was grinding or anything like that. But my fav noise is the engine when it goes vroom!!

Does that intake even do anything for the car that is beneficial?

If not then I won't even bother.

the only thing the K&N does is make noise. and if you like the looks of those things i guess it has that going for it too.
