rx-8 VR4

Hey im looking to swap either a 13b or 20b engine into my Mitsu 3000gt VR4.
I am just inquiring to see if it is even possible.

I am looking to do this swap because its cheaper than the alternative ( buying new VR4 engine) and i am looking to cut significant weight from the car.

i dont need suggestions for other engines i could put in there because i really only want to do rotary or original.

I was also wondering if its possible to get a transmission that will link upto the drive shaft or if i need a custom transmission.

Is there already a 5 speed 4wd rotary out there that i could just take the parts from a crashed one and swap them over. preferable 5 sped trans because thats the original size and am looking to do little to no modification to the trans. if there are any sources out there that would be of help please let me know.

i dont need suggestions for other engines i could put in there because i really only want to do rotary or original.not going to suggest something different, i suggest you find a used direct replacement engine

Mitsubishi GTO?!? ...

son,
you need to get your car facts straight...

There is NO such thing as a Mitsubishi GTO...i believe that you were actually referring to the Pontiac GTO.

Actually now that im reading over your post, i see nothing of relevance from your post to this thread...there was no mention about an SRT or a "mitsubishi gto" from the OP.

A less knowledgeable man than myself could've taken your post to heart and have resulted as being utterly confused through your misguided car facts. Know what your talking about before opening your mouth, son.

a mercedes engine bolts directly into a mitsu? since when...

the 13b-rew from an rx7 is a 5 speed. the rx7 is rwd. but ah.. i'd like to point out that its the transmission that puts the power to wheels. never heard of a 4 wheel drive engine before. i've heard of 4 wheel drive transmissions......

custom engine swaps are invariably going to be more expensive than a plug-n-play engine swap.

rofl!

i admit, i have overlooked some facts about the 3000gt and how its namesake may differ in certain areas. my deepest apologies for this blunder.

in my confusion, i had believed that referance to a GTO to be the only other car in the US market with a commonly known name of GTO, the Pontiac.

gg...

I guess you never took an intrest in looking at cars across the blue pond?

I bet you didn't know that Ferrari also has a GTO too....
Its the 328 GTO from the 1980's.

Before you clown somebody for not knowing there car history, i HIGHLY suggest you study yours first, SON!.

YEAH FIRST THINGS FIRST rotary and cheap dont belong in the same sentence. as far as putting a rotary in a 3000gt you better off trying to sqeeze in a ls1 or somthing. My personal opinion on the topic is sell it off and go buy somthin other than a mitsubishi for a sports car.

Settle down children.

I'm going to go with swoop on this one. Anything is possible if you throw enough money at it, but a stock re-manned engine is going to be your most cost efficient option. If you're swapping different parts between different cars always assume it will not fit, rather then it will fit.

If you do make a 4wd rotary powered car. you better post pics.

288 GTO! Hehe.

On the original topic, just find a direct replacement engine and shave weight another way.

this is true. im in the process of swapping an sr20 into my 8 and it does take a shitload of work and money. as for an all wheel drive rotary i would like to see that.
