these cars are fairly different...
in the 350Z, you've got a portly (but fast) 2-seater with a reportedly near-useless cargo area... they're comfy, good lookin', strong pullin, and a Z car.
in the STi and the Evo, you have AWD, turboed 4 bangers, in very compact cars with little in the way of anemities. clearly, the STi is faster (if that's what you're into), but you're gonna have to order NOW if you want one...
the deal with these cars is that they're really just hard-core performance machines, comprimising comfort, maybe even quality of the interior ( heh heh heh) to get 'em to go quick... reliability is subject to suspicion (in my eyes), as i don't know the history of these cars (more so the Mitsu... seems kinda like a Mickey Moused version of the Evo for NAm...)
the RX-8 is something very different from these... it lingers between cut and dried sports sedans, and traditional Mazda sports cars. Dan from RotaryNews.com assurs us that the handling is up to par (from what i can tell), and the power should be plenty good for regular driving... the other thing about the RX-8 is that it's got a rotary, which for some people (ie. me) is more than enough reason to choose that car over anything you can name (had i the money), of course short of an FC or an FD... ('cause i'm not in dire need of a rear seat, but they're nice for gettin' it on...)
don't want to be rude, but this is more of a Lounge type of question...

Besides the looks of the cars, how do you plan to drive it? planning on going into bad weather often?
Do you prefer the kick of a turbo or a linear power delivery?
How important is doing burnouts/donuts to you?
How often do you have more than two people in the car?
If I were choosing right now, it would be between the STi or the RX-8. I'm now addicted to AWD, but love the rotary.

i personally would drop the 350z. didnt enjoy it too much when i test drove it. drove a evo mr, that was pretty fun car, but the interior lacks.
so i would go for a rx8 of course or a sti. something with mitsu i can't really trust. so there goes the evo, but if u still want it, a evo 9 is coming out with specs similar to the mr.

Watch this video...it will help your decision making: It also compares the RX-8 to the 350Z. I bought the RX-8 because the Z only has two seats.

I hate that stupid brit! He gives all the cars I like bad reviews because they can't perform good in a autocross track! I wish he would roll the car over his bitch ***.

I love how lap times reveal the true virtues of a chassis. When I tested the RX8, it was really a curiosity- 4 doors, wankel engine...
My impressions were: The engine sound is truly glorious. The power is interesting in that it is not the fastest accelerating car ever, but it pulls continuously. The brakes are phenomenal for stock. Then I turned onto an exit ramp- I was sold. This car is a demon on the track. I cannot fathom how this car would be with FI. Somebody send me a kit and I will write my impressions
So anyhow, this post was from 2003?

Same here Jag, plus I like the interior and exterior of the 8 over the Z. The Z is a nice car and they have upgraded the interior for 2006. But at the time I was looking at them is looked like the interior borrowed parts from the Altima. The Z's exterior has grown on me, its too boxy and boring.
As for the STI and EVO, very fast cars but I don't know about their reliability.
Hey Jag when are you coming back out to another RRDI?
