Rx8 CEL, warranty??

Hey guys i have an 04 rx8 with a little over 36000 miles. A couple months back the cel came on and i had the mazda dealer look at it, they told me nothing was wrong and reseted it. I basically wasted money so they can just reset my computer. Anyways the engine light is back on again, only this time i actually hear some clicking when i go into 2nd gear, and my car is automatic so its not me clutching wrong or mis shifting, as all of you know rx8's are high maintenance cars and cost big $$% for upkeep. I feel that my mazda dealer only wants to make money and not really help me with my car issues. So i was wondering if any of you had any advice on this issue. Also my airbag light is blinking, it just seems like problems keep adding up on this car. I am aware that numerous recalls have been made, anyways any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The first error code could have been related to your gas cap not being on. That being said, you can always go to autozone or another parts store and have them check the code for you. They can't turn it off but they can get the code number for you. After that you just need to search the forums here to see what it means. As for your current problems, I am not qualified enough to attempt an answer .

Rx8 is not a high maintenance car. It's just that most owners are too stupid to do proper maintanence, then when things go wrong, it's always easier to blame the machine than their dumb self.

First off go get the code scan at autozone

Not really. But any car can cost big money if you let it.

What was the code that the Mazda dealer read? If they charged you to read it, you're entitled to know what it was. You paid for it!

Don't go along with a blanket "could have been the gas cap" without knowing if it was one of the evap leak codes. In fact, if it was the gas cap, then Mazda should have replaced it at no cost and informed you that they performed MSP13.

Yes, go to Autozone or a similar place that will read the code at no charge. (One of the big transmission outfits has been advertising the same freebie.) FWIW, most code scanners can clear a code. But if it's something interesting, don't let them clear it. Leave it set so that if you take it to a good dealer it's there for them to read.

It may not be the same issue, but on my mom older cavalier every time the car would up shift it made a clicking sound, and that ended up being our 3rd gear worn out, but do not take my word for it, that its the same issue.

there was no recall (that I know of) about airbag.

there was a "known" issue with the connectors underneath the driver's seat (left side)

you should make sure the connectors under the seat is clean and connected "firmly"

but before you touch ANYTHING airbag related. MAKE SURE you unplug the battery, turn the car key to on, step on the brake. then leave it like that for couple of minutes. just to drain all the power on the system. turn the key back to OFF. Step and hold on to the brake for another minute or so before you touch ANYTHING.

Cuz a little bit of electricity can trigger the airbag, if you happen to be around the airbag when it deploys, it can and will kill you. if it didn't kill you, it will kill your wallet.

but ANYWAY, read the code first.

Best $70 you can invest in an RX-8 is a code reader!

I had a recall for my passenger airbag, seems the yellow connector to the bag, behind the glovebox, was designed too short, they put a longer piece in.

Get them codes read.......
