rx8 newbie

just bought my first 8 a couple months ago. last week i drove it from san diego, ca to norfolk, va. since i got here its running rough for about 20 sec or so on the first startup of the morning. sounds like a misfire but it doesnt do it any other time. i dont know all the tendencies of these engines yet so any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

its an 04. oil was changed before and after the road trip. dealer says plugs were changed about a week before i bought it so about 3 months ago. as for the coils i have no idea. also put in a new air filter and i only run 93 octane in it.

by misfire, do you mean it makes a "pop" sound from the mufflers? If so, that's normal

nope. it doesnt backfire at all. it sounds like one of the plugs isnt firing properly. it sputters quite a bit, but the idle doesnt get jumpy or anything and after half a min or so it smoothes right out.

they could have installed one of the plugs incorrectly or, (ive seen this before) put the trailing plugs where the leading ones should go

^ ah okay good point.. next best thing i can think of, is maybe you have some loose wires connected to your coils or the plugs were not installed properly and gotten loose

alright i'll check that out. i figured it was a problem with the ingnition components but i wanted some more informed advice before i started ripping into stuff lol. i just dont get why it runs fine after letting it run for a minute. i've been doing engine work for a long time and in my experience if the ingition system isnt working right it runs like crap all the time, not just when it feels like it lol. whose idea was it to give these cars tempers?

these car's are like women: can be temperamental if neglected (even for a minute!). But, treat her fine, and you'll get smooth and enjoyable rides
