it wouldnt be my car

I'll get you a price tomorrow man.

olddragger 04-18-2012 08:26 AM

fittings? just try summit racing --they have stainless fittings of that type if you want that color.
If you are adding performance options to your rebuild--then I vote for a lighter flywheel. It does change the way the car drives. It may free up just a tad of power, but its the increased ability to free rev faster that makes a difference in the way it drives. Its worth the money to me.

being that you do lose some "driveability" (which is not of a huge concern) is there a noticable difference between 9lb vs the 12lb?

bse50 04-18-2012 09:07 AM

buy BHR\spec's flywheel.
9lbs, very well balanced (better than most other flywheels) and it takes very little getting accostumed to it.
9lb isn't that light either... there are 4.5lbs flywheels out there...

except that those 4.5 lbs gonna suck for streets.

Because race car!

houstonrx8er 04-18-2012 09:53 AM

I was considering 9 light....4.5...gasp...talk about hard to drive

I have been talking with Charles about the BHR flywheel....I was confused how the ACT counterweight would work for the BHR/Excedy/ACT flywheels when they are all different weights.

anyone have anymore reasoning

bse50 04-18-2012 09:56 AM

Ask yourself: will a perfectly balanced element be able to balance an unbalanced assembly?
Nope, hence the counterweight... otherwise we wouldn't need one in the first place!

houstonrx8er 04-18-2012 10:19 AM

I understand the point of the counterweight, but I guess I dont understand "how it works".....if the flywheel weight is different why wouldnt the counterweight be adjusted accordingly (excluding the dynamic balancing)?

bse50 04-18-2012 10:25 AM

Is the counterweight there to balance the flywheel or to balance the rotors and front counterweight? :)
This doesn't apply to ALL flywheels and clutch setups as smaller race packages may require another approach but you get the idea.

shadycrew31 04-18-2012 10:29 AM

The counterweights on the front stack and rear flywheel work off each other. It all plays a hand in balancing the rotating assembly.

Also stop trying to understand it, its a rotary if it were simple and worked correctly they would be calling it RE8 instead of RX8.

:)

understood buy why is the CW weight not "relational" to the FW weight....thats the physics I dont understand. They are not sold as a pair for a reason and I cant accept it until I have an understanding :naughty:

dannobre 04-18-2012 11:20 AM

The rotating assembly is balanced either with a stock flywheel if it is being used or a rear counterweight if an aftermarket flywheel is being used. This is to balance with the weight of the front counterweight that is under the front cover.

Once the front and rear assemblies are balanced together then adding something that is already balanced to the assembly ( like an aftermarket fly/clutch assembly) will not cause an imbalance

Because its balancing the counterweight in the front! Are you wondering why they didn't incorporate the weight of the counterweight into the lightened flywheel?

Also fun fact for the counterweight.

houstonrx8er 04-18-2012 11:26 AM

i'll have to do some digging cause apparently I am pretty ignorant on how they play together and for some reason it is not clear

thanks for trying :)

houstonrx8er 04-18-2012 11:29 AM

the CW replaced the "internal balancer" right?

then this makes sense

let me rephrase alittle clearer but I still dont see why a CW can work for a 12lb FW and a 9lb.

I'll figure it out sorry guys

houstonrx8er 04-18-2012 07:34 PM

alright!!!! first box arrived today....1 lb of urethane

guess I'll start working on engine mounts

houstonrx8er 04-18-2012 09:06 PM

1 Attachment(s)
ok...that was way too easy not to do!

Attachment 234561

9krpmrx8 04-18-2012 09:22 PM

Okay, can you do mine?

houstonrx8er 04-18-2012 09:33 PM

hell yea, you need to order the urethane

http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/3629/=h60jp0
part#8644k11

1lb is all you need

9krpmrx8 04-18-2012 09:37 PM

Just one of that part #?

yea, 1 pound is all you need. should be like $32 or something...your going to want to wait 5-7 days before you install them. just fyi

shadycrew31 04-18-2012 11:30 PM

Told you it was going to be easy!

bse50 04-19-2012 02:05 AM

2 compound (how do you say that?) polyurethanes can dry in less than 2h.
Did you do the drill and bolt part too?
