sorry to spam post but what are the odds of the fuel being the problem?
I have an almost full take that I pre treated with seafoam with I parked it 7-8 weeks ago, what are the odds that could be the issues? (damn I really dont want to drain 12+gal of gas |
how much sea foam?
doesnt that stuff attract water? When it was running was it smooth? what rpm were you at when it stalled? Idle or higher? My first guess is to double check the fuel injector harness-make double dang sure the right wire is to the injector. 2nd make sure the ignition is hooked up right check the coil ground--dont laugh it happened to me---- make sure your purge valve is install correctly if you are worried about it being too tight--check your end play with a 2x4--you know how. DONT pull it off--not a new engine. |

DONT pull it off--not a new engine. it ran fairly smooth at cold idle and when I held at 2k. I did rev up to 4k 1 time and it was smooth as butter. I will check the injectors but I think we triple checked them and I am 100% on the ignition verified. purge valve was installed but I would like to see the vacuum activity (assuming there is something to see) dont pull what off of my new engine? |
Don't pull start it is what he means.
|
awe man, I had just cut the cord on my mower to wrap it up
I am probably calling it a day and will take the LIM off tomorrow to have a looksie...damnit I was soooooo close |
did it shut off while idling?
Sounds like ignition and fuel injectors are hooked up ok. Ok whats does that leave--if it died at idle--maybe vacuum? Check them all. Check the battery and coil grounds-- add fresh fuel to the tank---what do you have to lose? Fuel pump does activate when you switch on the car--right? Maf and o2 sensor plugged up? Stupid--i know. I have done it. Didnt drop one of those cinnamon rolls into anything--did ya:) |

Man I can't help but feel it has to do fuel. Like you are slowly running out after a few mins. If is is the pump or the vacume line that goes to the fuel system or connection on the engine bay resistor.
|
I dont think I mentioned it but I help feeling like everything is too tight, it just seems really hard to turn the motor over....you can do it by hand (w/o plugs installed) but its hard. my coolant temps reached 180 after 7min of running 2k and under the first time. got a stinking all day meeting that I will probably leave early from becuase this is all I can think about.
Ugh...totally deflated :( |
end play is Ok?
check it with 2x4? Takes 2 people. Starter turning it ok? with the accessories hooked up ( a/c, alternator) the engine is a little tight to turn by hand. Sometimes the starter needs cleaning out--they can be taken apart easily and cleaned/check the brushes. If you think it is fuel--just unhook the gas line from the fuel rail--right by the power brake booster---use the check circuit in the fuse box--to see if it is pumping ok and to get a fuel sample. Sea foam may have affected it? Check the plugs after cranking it a few times and see if gas is getting to the rotor. If it is flooded take all the plugs out--unplug the e shaft sensor , disconnect the fuel pump and crank that bitch until it is dry. |
Ill see about checking endplay
Starter turns ok with charged battery plugs come out wet or at least they were How do i test the fuel? Once I get out of this meeting I will post the start video |
so you dont seem too concerned with the temps reaching 180 in only 7min....is that due to the tremendous friction involved with breakin.
|
I cant help but think the heat if from a bubble in the cooling system. Next to you fire it up maybe try putting the heater on high?
IDK man nothing makes sense. From the way it sounds It sounds like you are running out of fuel. |
I think we have an extra fuel pump at our house if you want me to bring it by let me know man.
|
We should check the end play for sure.
I don't think the starter is the issue but I have a brand new Denso starter in the box man, I also have a couple of sets of new plugs so just let me know what you want to bring and when you want to get into this. I know you probably feel a bit defeated man but don't worry, we will get it. Even if we have to pull this bitch again next weekend we will get it sorted. |
I am going to take off the LIM and just look around today (I hope right after lunch but this meeting is heating up....ugh)
once I get home the check list starts. |
Let me know dude, I can come by after work.
|
feel free to, I will be outside working on it.
I just hate to keep starting it for fear of damage. hopefully the vid post later will help |
I'm headed back today, if you don't have things figured out by Wednesday I can head down there.
My car didn't idle on its on at initial startup, I needed to keep it at 3k for about 15 minutes then I let go of the throttle and it started to idle on it sown. I assume you checked your coolant level after you filled it up? |
it idled at first, then stalled out.
what did your temps look like on start up the first time (did he heat up fast?) I will keep you posted as this unfolds. |
nothing to worry about. In seven minutes it should heat up.
I once tried to start a new engine for a whole day and I couldnt figure out what was wrong. Ended up I was out of gas. True story. The sender in the tank was reading 1/4 tank in error because one of the wires in the tank had become intangled. My luck--right? Little hint--dont get ahead of yourself. Dont over analize. You need spark and gas thats all. It sounds like you are getting gas? Add some fresh gas for the hell of it. Check the ignition--you have new plugs--right? All the ecu connectors are plugged in tight--right? Check relays and fuses---or do it the easy way and buy a spark plug tester and observe while cranking. This kind of stuff will make you cuss out every tree in the yard. I dont like pull starting a new engine.......... I really dont know why--i just dont. |
Here's a stupid question. Are you sure you've got the primary and secondary injector wires on the correct injectors and not switched with each other?
|
yep already asked that---he says he is 1000% certain they are correct.
Now seafoam stuff is just a pale oil, naphta and isopropyl alcohol---unless you dumped a whole can in 2-4 gallons -it probably didnt affect anything. Still fresh gas is good. |

I really dont know why--i just dont. at first the coils wernt grounded right (btw.....bhr kit) this has been resolved and I valudated spark with a plug against the chasis, most certainly added new plugs, ECU is good, I checked the important fuses all were good. trees....I live in san antonio...there are no stinking trees (wow how I miss west tx) |
For comparison, my coolant temps were right 180F when I pulled into the office this morning. I also let it warm up for about a minute. This is of course with gingerly driving since I'm not tuned yet.
