the thermostat is needed on this set up.it acts as a restrictor also. The heater hose coolant supply is huge. In it's oem config that coolant never goes to the radiator, it mixes with the coolant from the radiator at the thermostat housing--heating the cooled coolant back up!
If the heater hose flow is left without restriction in it--the water pump loses a little head pressure making it less efficent. At least that is what I think happens.
Fluid dyne makes a 180F in line thermostat that you can install and never have to worry about over cooling or seeing the coolant temps bouncing around.
I have a huge write up somewhere about my coolant system findings---yall have been ignoring me!!!
True with my spelling you probably need a decoder ring to read it--but its there! Somewhere--I think.........

I am actually thinking of driving my car to houston this weekend and my dad and I are going to play with Pro E so he can print me a mold on thier 3d printer at work.....gotta love HP engineers ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I also saw a few sheets of Stainless Steel at work and it made me think of using galvanized as a practice run...just make it rough to work the bugs out then fad it from SS if the fiberglass doesnt work out. We can talk more Saturday morning at C&C

Are yall thinking about thrying to heat shield the lim?
If so--i would just like to pass on that i have attempted to do that before and it really didnt work. I found out the reason. The LIM has a huge footprint where it is bolted onto the engine. I even tried one of those special gaskets that blocks heat transfer? I found out it was too think and it interfered with the apv opening. Sigh.......
.
It is good though to place a shield on the header ( dont wrap it) to help keep the engine bay temps down. I did that and it does help a little.
It is going to 103F here Saturday---damn!

Next week I plan on building a custom one that goes all the way across from the fuse box to the ecu cause I plan on relocating the battery to the trunk. I'll be using aluminum sheet, I would stay away from Stainless Steel because of the added weight. If you guys don't have something working by next week let me know, I can send you over the dimensions of everything when it's done.

Are you not using the stock air box tray?

No I could cut it to work but it looks like ****. We want a tray that works exactly as you describe. Hoss-05 and I got the wire last night to relocate the battery to the trunk. Hopefully I can do that this weekend.

If I can talk my wife into me not going to houston we can work on that this weekend....the more I think about it the more I dont want to travel. Keep you posted
I may get the stuff to do the relocation as well, battery has to go, figure might as well strike while the iron is hot
