Are you not using the stock air box tray?

Next week I plan on building a custom one that goes all the way across from the fuse box to the ecu cause I plan on relocating the battery to the trunk. I'll be using aluminum sheet, I would stay away from Stainless Steel because of the added weight. If you guys don't have something working by next week let me know, I can send you over the dimensions of everything when it's done.

almost missed this post, noto the stock ABT....I needed the space for my sohn res

I agree on the aluminum, the SS was just somthing handy and free :)

Please do look forward to seeing the results!

I dont work on cars in the summer.... Thats a fact...

What if I told you I was running a/c to my garage? I am upping to a 4ton unit just for this purpose :)

well fail again!:anger: I took off my UIM so I could swap my airpump soliniod with my SSV (got p0661), also wanted to install my oil filter relocation set up. they sent me the wrong freaking size (always test fit before assembly)....bastards
here is the filter end of the set up, LAP was out of the filter I wanted, this was the first I found that fit, completly temporary

another issue has reared its ugly head, last night and this morning as I climb above 6500RMP there is low power and periodic hesitaion, I assume that this could be related to the SSV soliniod but it is different that the 4500rpm blip I have been expierencing (doesnt the SSV kick in at 5500?) Part of me thinks fuel pump maybe a culprit because I have filled up 4-5 times with the car running.

on a good note I got my switch so I can shut off my oil cooler fan

Your rpm readings are based on the tach or a Cobb? I think the tach reads 500-1000 high

olddragger 06-30-2012 02:32 PM

check your cat?

houstonrx8er 06-30-2012 02:32 PM

Did I menton rpm, if I did iwas from the tach....based on the cobb cold ide is 1100ish warn is 850

Sorry posting from my phone.....lol

Hi guys,

I have been lurking and snooping the threads around here while I get my block out... well, I got it out, little unorthodox, I am afraid, but its out. (I dropped everything out the bottom). I am just now getting to a point where I would like to jump in here or start a parallel thread for my rebuild to reduce confusion. I am in Louisiana (Baton Rouge Area) if anyone knows a local/regional specialist I would be happy to work direct with them.

Click here for recent image of block as it sits

Sorry if this does not work, I am new to this forum and posting pics seems to require I host them elsewhere

That is awesome! Let me know if you want any help with setting it all up.

Welcome to the forums! The closest shop I know of that can build an engine for you is in GA, I would highly recommend sending the core off to a builder. Unless you're a crazy person like Houston and myself!! I'm not actually crazy I just hate paying people to do things I can do on my own. IMHO Its also the most effective way of learning.

houstonrx8er 07-01-2012 08:44 PM

crazy???? crazy you say.....I was crazy once. They locked me in a padded room and I thought I could rebuild a rotary..... it almost drove me crazy.......crazy???? crazy you say.....I was crazy once......:)

2004 AT Rebuild - photo narrative

Here is a link to an unnarrated pictorial of the refrence pics I took for the last step in the manual... put back in reverse order... I will continue to update the break down for the same purposes. Any thoughts on things you may already see, or advice as I get the housings opened up regarding what all is good and what all needs trashing I would appreciate it. I am basically lookg to put this thinkg back to mostly stock with maybe a few cosmetic upgrades to shine for potential buyers as I will most likely have to sell it.

shadycrew31 07-01-2012 11:06 PM

Cant really tell whats going on until you crack the engine open.

houstonrx8er 07-02-2012 08:59 AM

good luck man, just crack it open and get after cleaning parts :) it will take you at least a day to do all that (probably more like 2-3). Just keep track of what parts go where...esp the rotors if you are going to reuse all the seals/springs.

olddragger 07-02-2012 09:38 AM

the ssv is supposed to open at around 3300rpm--depending on load/rpm. The apv is supposed to open at 6.2Krpm. Any codes?
Also make sure the maf is clean and is mounted in a straight line--i forgot what intake you have....

houstonrx8er 07-02-2012 10:26 AM

Those RPM’s make me think the SSV isn’t my “immediate” issue.....I do have code p0661 and a noticeable loss of power in the high RPM but it’s not consistent. I did swap the air pump and SSV solenoids thinking that would resolve the issue but the hesitation is still there. Again this is what leads me to believe the issues is fuel pump (or something of the like) and the SSV code is "distracting me" from the true problem.

houstonrx8er 07-02-2012 10:33 AM

I just read a few threads could the SSV impact switch be a culprit?

https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1274140084

edit: that is not me testing it...just a photo for reference :)

shadycrew31 07-02-2012 12:07 PM

I might be free this weekend if you want to test some shit out.

houstonrx8er 07-02-2012 12:17 PM

cool, I think we are staying home so help would be welcomed

9krpmrx8 07-02-2012 01:57 PM

Just do what I do and block the code with ATR :)

houstonrx8er 07-02-2012 02:10 PM

I dont want to hide the code because I have a problem. there is some sort of "mechanical failure" randomly in the 6k+ RPM range......you can feel the power come and go.

part of me just wants to eliminate the fuel pump/filter from being the issue because its 128k, had very heavy premix run through it and I have been filling it up while the car is running

9krpmrx8 07-02-2012 02:13 PM

 I know, I'm just being my normal fawking hilarious self.

My APV code was still there and I have checked everything and everything seems to be working fine so I just blocked the code.

I think I have an extra fuel pump laying around. I also have my fancy new fuel pump removal tool :)

houstonrx8er 07-02-2012 02:14 PM

bandaid FTW YO!!!!! :)

I was thinking about this on the way home.....If I have P0661 (low circuit) and I swap solenoids with the Air pump and still have the same code could the issue be in the actuator and that causes the solenoid to read incorrectly? There are only 4 freaking things there, solenoid, actuator, position switch and the valve itself.

maybe the SSC is throwing a hissy fit because I ported/polished everything but it :(....poor bastard

of course, we wouldnt have you any other way:bowdown:

I am good with masking the APV code no biggy there, just need to figure out the SSV bs cause it suck driving a car half way :)

we can try it out for sure but it will be temporay unitl I get a new one :)....and just between us....I cant wait to break you cool tool:rollingla
