an RX8er's rebuild thread

Listen...you smell that?
Ok so after skimming through all 66 pages of this thread (awesome read by the way) it sounds like your initial build was doomed because of bad housings and not so much incorrect assembly? I thought you started out with new housings no? Or was it the ceramic apex seals?
I'm still debating on whether to give this a shot or wave the white flag and go remanufactured. I've went throught three epic build threads (this one, Shady's, and the puerto rican's) and while it looks like a whole lotta fun it also looks like a whole lotta pain in the ***. I love the idea of building the engine myself but I like the idea of me driving a functioning car even more, no what I mean.
The one thing I am learning from most of these build threads is do your homework and use OEM everything!

you got it man, bad Atkins cryo seals (not ceramics)
and I used slightly used housings the first go around which were pretty messed up after the seals tore them up...I used all new housings the 2nd goaround
if you have taken the time to read mine and shady's builds and you are still considering it...go for it, despite the sever pain in the *** it was great expierence and I would do it again
Good luck man! we are here to help

alright, solenoid it was and all is well. took me 27min to remove UIM, swap solenoid, get sidetracked with the DTC, label my connectors and button everything back up.....minus the brake system vac line.....damn that's loud when you start the car!
Mid range power restored and tuning will commence tomorrow with SARX.....I will have to revisit the dyno and redeem myself.....

Well after an amazing day @ F1 qualifying we went out for dinner and my car decided to dump a billowing cloud of noxious fuel vapor from under it... I pulled over to find a quart of fuel boiling on top of my intake manifold. a very exciting 10 min watching it boil and a trip by ShadyCrew to grab some tools.... we removed my UIM and found nothing obvious.![Shocking](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/shocking.gif)
After the AAA ride back to his garage and a 911 delivery by 9k (we are just like an F1 team hot-shoting parts across Texas) we replaced the boot on one of the P1 injectors....it was the only thing "questionable" everything else looked "normal" (or SARX'd). I did replace the fuel pump about 500 miles ago but that shouldn't matter.
Anyway it drove all the way back to San Antonio without issue.....oh well here is a shot from my seal at CoTA

sounds likely and is a real bummer being I had all them all flow tested and all the seals replaced ![Frown](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
looks like I will be ordering new injectors just for the hell of it...gonna keep a 20lb fire extinguisher with me for a while![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
question, I am getting a fuel pressure gauge for christmas, would I be able to see this type of leak or would it just read 60 because that is what the pump is delivering?

I don't if you would see it or not, if you set your low alarm at say 58 you might. I doubt it though since it should try and compensate if the pressure drops. Mine stays right at 60psi and only increases occasionally, it never really drops.

replace that line that connects the 2 sets of injectors--the red plastic spacer in it can wiggle around. Did you reuse the one that came off your old engine? Dont ever reuse that line.
It will leak and I know of a couple of cars that burned from it.
I lost an engine because of that damn small red spacer thing. I too pooled a lot of gas on top of the engine from it.
the line can move back and forth during driving--leak some reseal, leak again etc---
