sCANalyzer -- use USB or RS-232?
I am in the process of building a carPC that will fit in my glovebox. The motherboard is a VIA MII-10000, which has a DB9 serial port. I've already gotten a 4-port USB hub for other components, but I am stuck with a decision on how to hook up the sCANalyzer: Do I use the serial port, or do I get a serial-USB adapter? Ideally I would not want to buy another part for no gain in functionality. Are there any explicit advantages to using the device on USB instead? I intend to use the 1.1 beta version of the software for double the update rate; will USB or serial play nicer in winXP than the other? Are there any startup (operating system power on) issues with USB over serial?
