well-well-WELL...There was a GOOD AMOUNT of slop in the plunger. I adjusted as you described and took the car for a spin.

Helped a BIT...now, I was able to get down into 2nd gear as fast as 35mph with MINIMAL grinding....anything faster, though, and the problem was still there.

Thanks for the tip, though!

could be too late, the synchro may be damaged beyond the point of no return

Dealer said I can bring it in Monday night, and tuesday they will do some things with the transmission - whatever that means.

:fingerscrossed:

I swapped my trans fluid to RP as well and got the exact same issue (4th gear grinds above 6k primarily when the trans is warm, roughly 15 to 20 min of driving). I drained the fluid out and whent back to non-synthetic (yes I flushed it out many times to get most of the synthetic out). The non-sythetic helped however, the problem is still there. I'll check out the plunger tomorrow and report back.

I also noticed that it happens alot more once the trans gets up in temp. I will investigate this further......

Well.........I adjusted the plunger rod quite a few times and unfortunatly none of the adjustments alleviated my 4th gear grind issue. Back to the stealership.......sigh.

Thanks TeamRX8! I'll be checking out my plunger rod tonight. I can get to this through the interior, right...under the clutch pedal?

Dropped the car off - I SERIOUSLY doubt they'll fix anything. The tech drove it with me in the car - he was able to get down into 2nd gear above 40mph by muscling it in. I asked if that was normal - he said "You just gotta drive it that way". He said he'd check another rx8 to see if it does the same thing. So...we'll see. If Maz. won't fix it - I'll absolutely sell it.

Update: Got the call "We're going to keep your car for a couple days; we'll have to drop the transmission..."

GOOD sign.

You want to have a small amount of clearance though. Adjust the plunger rod by hand until you feel it start to tighten up, then back off a turn or two and lock the nut down
Is there a diy for this before I go screwing up my clutch pedal on my own?

Seems like what he wrote IS the DIY. Keep in mind, the more you make that plunger tight, the higher-up your clutch will grab.

I found one in the diy forum too

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=clutch+pedal

I like having the retard version just to be sure I'm not screwing anything up.

is this a 2004 car? If so you may have the bent 2nd gear shift fork issue, typically caused from over-pulling the lever when doing max effort 1-2 gear changes

Called Dealer this AM -

"FedEX dropped off a Transmission to SOME Mazda Dealer - but we don't have it. We've spent the last day and a half trying to find out who has the transmission we paid for. Try back again Monday."

Darin, I have come to the conclusion that you need to move. Mazda dealers up there seem to suck.

PA has plenty of good jobs to move into...

I'd LOVE a state or fed job in PA, Stephen!

Btw - "Maybe Tomorrow (the car will be done)" they said, a couple hours ago.

I'm going to mail that oil-cap to you stephen, and start planning the return-to-stock of my car - pending trade-in. PM or Email your Mailing addy, aight?
