Just wondering if there is any short shifter will fit 09. Did my search but can't find anything. THX!

 

THe only available option that I know of for the 04-08 models, is the AFE short shifter. Check out the axialflow engineering website to see if the shifter is compatible.

 

Not compatible. But there is one in the works, I believe Paul started working on it from a donor 09 tranny sometime late last year. I'm not sure though.

The transmission is the same one they use in the MX-5....I wonder if one of those would fit? It should.

 

this is the only one i could find. other than the one on japanparts .com ,that is $500

i e mailed axial flow and was told they haven't made a decision yet. i asked for a yes or no if they would make a shifter.

 

Just to clarify an issue here,

The 09 RX-8 Transmission is NOT the exact same one used in the 09 NC MX-5, it is the same design and style, but the RX-8's is BEEFED up a little (some bearings, gears and casing) and has different internal gear ratio's. Input shaft is different, but they share the same identical main shaft.

As far as a short shifter goes, I think the NC one "should" fit, but I can't guarantee this.

I just checked the Genuine Mazda part numbers for the Original Shifter and related parts and they are Different Part numbers, But, this does not necessarily mean an NC MX-5 SS will not fit an FE 09 RX-8.
