Short Shifter Shaking

Ok when I am driving my car or just sitting still my shifter shakes. It actually feels like its vibrating. Is this normal? Anyone else experience that problem? Any answers would help. Thanks

This has been mentioned in other threads. The consensus is that it is normal. Never heard of anybody having a servicing issue because the shifter shakes a little in idle..

Yeah but i was under the assumption that it shouldn't shake, so nobody has brought the car to the dealer to get it checked out?

Old threads I've read mention the contrary. Are you talking "Mex jumping bean" or a stiff vibration in the shifter?

Why do you assume that? Previous RXs and Miatas always have some vibration of the shifter at idle. This is because the shifter is directly mounted to the transmission, which is directly attached to the engine of course.

On front wheel drive cars, the shifter is remotely connected to the transmission via cables or rods, and no vibration gets transmitted from the transmission to the shifter. Of course, they don't have as good shift feel and action either...

Regards,
Gordon

You know, now that you mention it, my 3000GT's shifter doesn't shake or vibrate at all (FWD). My previous car - a 240SX - did have a gearshift that shook a little bit (RWD) even though it shifted as smoothly as they get.

Someone at the dealer has done put a Harley motor in your RX-8!

Seriously, the rotary motor has a lumpy idle. My 3rd gen shifter does this too. Perfectly normal.

It's normal for every rear wheel drive car I've ever driven. Even my wimpy little Toyato pick-up's shifter shook a lot.
