Angry Should I join the new engine club?

Hi,

Here we go again... While I was driving in the hi way for about hald an hour and speed between 100km-120km while get my way out of the hi way and reduced speed the car behaved strange.
I pulled over and the whole car was shaking and lost considerable amount of power.
I am running cat less and air pump less (I just disconnected the plug).
Because I don't have any diagnostic tools I RESET the PCM by disconnecting the battery. to see if a MIL appears. Note that i connected back the air pump.
Note that I use 98octane since i have the car in my hands. The car now has 46kkm and for the later 15kkm i am using Repsols 10w30 mineral oil. I used to use Kendall's semi synthetic 10w30 but the raised the price a lot.
Anw...
No check engine light is on but the car is still shaking and no power.
The exhaust is doing like boop boop boop.
I feel that I am running a ported RX7.

The car now is sitting in the dealership 2nd day now and the guys there cannot figure out what is the problem.

Because I feel that is something serious the worse thing of all is that I am out of warranty

woooo...
Just came back from the dealership.
I got there to take some stuff from the car.
Anw...
They have had the sparks and they are really FUC*ED Up! The pin from the leading one was missing. I hope the renesis digested without any artifacts :P
Anyway. They plug in new sparks but the problem is still there not as much it was before the new sparks.
I insisted to change at least the leading coils and they said the new year
anyway...

Not yet... cos they don't know exactly what caused the failing of the spark.
I know that a set of sparks is sold for $240. They are ripping us. Last time I replaced coils and sparks I bought from finishlineperformance, It costed $450 with installation and import taxes.
When I got an estimate from the dealership it was about $1000 for set of sparks and set of coils.

ouch,

I just picked up my plugs for 80 bucks and installed them in 2 hours (I Took My Time). I have your similar problem on Startups, one of the rotors is misfiring, i need to check the CEL again, but it does it but i don't get an engine flood like i used to, and the smoke on the exhuast goes away after a few seconds instead of minutes...

Yeah those coils are 30 bucks each. I hope you find another dealer after this event. Let us know how things turn out. I lucked out and got an extended warrenty.

Have a good new years!

coils are about 27 each @ OnlineMazdaParts.

but if u're out of the US it will cost more. hmm import Tax? Cant you just put *gift* on the box so you can exempt from it ? Thats what I do when I buy stuff from Hong Kong. They put it as *gift* so I dont have to pay any stupid *** Import tax ... hehehe

the coils and sparks that are already installed are from rosenthal mazda usa.
Anw..
I just came back from the garage to pick some other stuff from my car.
Voila, the whole intake system is missing from my car... they thought that maybe there is a vacuum leak (the throttle body) and they removed the whole intake system ( up to the engine).

Is that a good practise? I mean if you suspect a vacuum leak wouldn't a diagnostic tool show more information instead of removing the whole intake. And they will put another (complete one) intake system from an engine which was sitting for a reason that no one knows.

The said that they checked the compression and is about 9,7 i dont know which metric system they used and what tools.

Anw... that's it for now.

I insisted him to change at least 2 coils (the leading) and he said that there is no chance i will be out of coil without and a check engine. Is that correct?

Best regards
and happy new year every one!

WTF ? WHAT ? REMOVED THE WHOLE INTAKE SYSTEM ! UP TO THE ENGINE ?

WHAT THE FUCCCCCCKKKKK ?

NO AIR FILTER NOTHING ?

What kind of **** TARD repair shop you've been to !?!!?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?!

OF COURSE ITS NOT GOOD PRACTICE !!!!

if the compression is 9.7 thats really good, BUT ! I Question them in doing the compression check in the *right* way ....

Tell them to change the coils and plug wire. problem WILL be resolved.

Finally,
I will join the new engine club.
They tried everything (coils, air intake, sparks etc.) the correct value for the compression (i've a talked with the mechanic) is for the fron 4.something and for the rear rotor 6.something.
My car doesn't have a warranty and in the past when i asked for a new engine i ve been told that is about $5k for a used engine.
Anw, I i get a reasonable price i will get rid of the car.

wait....46k km is already out of the warranty? are you in Canada or US? if in canada, its 5 years 100,000km powertrain warranty...you should get a engine for free....even in US, they will also cover the up to 60k miles. 2004 rx8 should at least have 1 year left for warranty....whats going on?

Well i am in Cyprus Europe.
The car is a Japan import (type s variant).
In Europe Rx8 is covered for 3 years or 100,000km (whichever come first).
I suppose that even if it was running under the EU warranty scheme it won't be warranted the car is a 2004.

Angry New vs Remanufactured engine?

As I pointed before... The car is not warranted.
Therefore to fix it I will have to pay for it.

To get a new engine warranted for 1 year from a respectful (in Cyprus and Greece) rotary shop it will cost me about $8000.

To get a remanufactured without any warranty it will cost me around $7000.

To get a used unknown mileage unknow owner unknown status $5000-$6000
Even if it was for FREE I would nvr wanted to get into such sh*t.

My first thought after this incident was to sell the car as is and get another one (OF COURSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN RX8 AND OF COURSE WINNING BLUE ) though I ve been told by ppl that i won't get any serious cash to sell it as is.

Anyway I think I will get a new engine from the respected rotary shop.

I have a question though more general.
I think that i ruined the rear o2 sensor because i was running catless for the later 1 month. Am i correct. Would a catless Rx cause the rear o2 sensor fail?
and i decided to get a new hi flow cat. My girlfriend complains all the time about the fumes.

Given that I will change the rear o2 wouldn't be wiser to change the front o2 as well or is it a waste of money ($300+).

Of course I will run with brand new coils/sparks.

Please let me know of your views

if the spark plug tip is *missing* from the plug.

most likely it went inside your engine and made a BIG scratch so your rotor housing is a bye bye, it probably damaged something else in the process say the Apex seal. or the side seals.

You can try to get a Reman from Mazmart, Very good shop with one of the most famous guy rebuilding their engine, usually go for 2500 ~ each plus your core of course, Im thinking it should not take 1000 dollars to ship the engine to you right ? so make it about 4000 dollars for a good engine, does not sound too bad.

New engine is up and running smooth like new. I am a bit concern though if it is actually a new engine or a rebuilt/remanufactured. TO be honest I took a look at the engine when it arrived it was in nylon bags and a carton and it has some stickers (in japanese).
Could anyone tell me from the engine number whether is a new or rebuilt?
