Smoke/burning smell coming from engine bay
Any help will be appreciated!
I was driving home today, like any other day and once I got off the highway and closer to home, I started to smell something burning when I was at a stop light. At first I didn't know where it was coming from because my windows were down but then I noticed smoke coming from the engine bay.
I managed to get home and stop the car, popped the hood, and removed the main plastic to notice some faint smoke coming from behind the motor, near the firewall.
I did a check around the bay with a flashlight and didn't notice any cables, rubber, or belts out of place or causing friction.
I let the car cool down and I double checked the coolant level and it was fine.
I started the car again and there was no smoke coming from the bay, did a bit of revving too and still nothing. I only let it run for another 2-3 minutes though.
I have no issues with starting the car (no hard start, no stutter), car drove fine on the way home, no smoke from the exhaust, and no burning coolant smell.
Overall it smelt like something along the lines of burnt plastic or paper or something (i.e. did not smell like burning rubber). I did not find any oil or liquids in abnormal places either (although I can't check way down in the engine bay that well).
I also looked underneath the car to check if anything was leaking and again nothing at that moment (I'll check again in the morning).
Should I chalk this up to just something getting stuck and burning up or maybe my wheel fitment clipped something?
Anything in particular back there I should be worried about? Could it be the transmission/clutch?
My engine mods in case:
K&N Typhoon 2 intake
Race Roots single exit exhaust
Premix with Idemitsu
I threw a P0366 code twice in the last few months... Didn't have any problem starting the car so I just cleared the codes both times. They actually both showed up during or after some rain though.
Thanks!
