Something fell off from my 04 RX8

Hi guys, I was just driving on a highway and the road was flat and even, and I did not hit the bumps or something. Suddenly, something fell off from my 04 RX-8 (56xxx miles). I could not stop and pick it up the stuff since I was on the highway...and the object was a metal. I heard the object (metal) falling off from the upper part of underneath the car, it hit the road and the sound was pretty loud. (as if you were drop a metal on your height). The size was about an adult's fist. I took it to nearest repair shop and is currently investigating... but they said nothing seems to be problem. What would it be? Any guesses?

Sure you didn't pick up something that was already on the road?

Not too much metal that you wouldn't notice.....maybe one of the cross braces or something??

When was the last time it was in a shop? Could they have left a tool someplace? I have had that happen before.

Last time I visited was about a week or so... and I drove about 300 miles after that.
