So I'm leaving work the other day, and i go out to the parking lot where my '05 Silver 8 has been sitting all day. I start the car, drive away and notice that the usual rotary rev isn't there. I shift into second and pull out onto the street. My beloved 8 is sluggish - I floor the gas pedal and the best I can do is 2 thousand RPMs and about 15 MPH. I shift into third and I eventually (like after a minute) get up to 2500 RPMs and build to maybe 30 MPH. This has never happened before.

I stop at my mother-in-law's house to pick up the kids. I turn the car off. 10 minutes later, I turn the car back on and everything seems fine, other than the check engine light still being on. However, I had just gone over 25K miles so maybe the light came on automatically then.

Does this make any sense to anyone? I am stumped. I check and change the oil regularly, keep it in the garage and take good care of my car. Any ideas?

First place to start is to go to an Autozone, or other parts place, where they will read your trouble code for free.

Post what the code says.

---- Something caused the computer to put your car into 'limp mode'. The code will tell you what it was. Might be serious; might not.

Anything else would just be guessing....

 

Not normal for Check engine light to just come on...sounds like it may be time for plugs/coils/wires......did the check engine light flash at all??
