Spark Plugs bad -can it cause Crank Position Sensor CEL?? ODB scanner suggestions?
My car started going wacky at idle, high RPM then low, then battery indicator and stall. The car has been running rough for the past month.
Upon restart, I got a CEL that the shop read as faulty Crank Position Sensor. Upon pulling the plugs, they were fouled.
So my question is could fouled plugs issue falsely give the Crank Position sensor CEL? Meaning is there a chance I dont have to replace that part. Of course the shop wants to, since it did come up on their computer.
I am also having them put in Coils and new plug wires, and coolant flush
This is 5 years and 30K hard city miles with lots of idling.
Also an suggestion for me to purchase an ODB-CAN scanner. I am looking at the innova equs 3130 for about $140. Is this overkill?

what code? p0335 or p0336?
Any innova scanner is good, 3100 series is what most of the techs here use for quick code reading on cash cars (we dont have to print stuff out for non-warranty issues)
kevin.
