Sqeaky when cold
I have noticed over the last week, a squeak from the engine compartment as I drive when cold. This lasts for only a second while a go into first as I drive away.
Very quiet but never the less noticable to me.
I'm thinking......happens only when cold, only for a second or two.... BELT!
The belts must have stretched a tiny bit over the last 3700 miles. Also there is no pretentioner that I can see. The adjustment is manual. There are two belts. The wider of the two drives the alternator. My scientific method of determining which one I would adjust came down to which one felt looser.
The Alternator belt has a tiny bit less tension by touch. I figured I would only adjust a small amount so that even if that belt was not the culprit, the extra tension was a mute point.
The adjustment was very easy. A 12 mm socket is all that is needed.
First just "crack" the bolt on the slide. Then turn the adjuster bolt a few times. I only moved it 1/8 of an inch from its original position.
I will know in the morning if this was the problem.
