Squealing brakes

Squealing brakes
Hey guys, in the last month or so, as the weather has gotten a little colder, I've noticed my brakes started squealing... it's very annoying, it seems worse when I start driving and then subsides after about five minutes or so. I took it to my local Mazda dealership and they said the brakes were fine, they just cleaned them but it still squeals. It's very annoying... anyone else has this problem? And if so, any ideas on what I need to do to fix them? I feel like just spraying a whole bunch of WD40 on them to shut them up

Not a whole lot of info to go off of here, but this is a common problem. Did you buy the car new (ie unmoodded), when were the current set of pads installed and what pads are they?
You can always take the pads off, clean them and apply anti-squeal to the areas on the back of the pad that contact the calipers, and that should help for a while.
If the car is new, let the dealership take care of it for free. If you got the car used, the previous owner may have installed a more aggressive pad on the car, and that would explain some squeel until the pads get in to their designed operation temp range. If that is the case, you can either deal with it or go back to stock pads (which might do the same thing).

Renewing the anti-squeal compound on the backing plates will probably help. A quick and dirty fix -- use a spray hose to wet the disk rotors (both sides of each) thoroughly and let the car sit overnight without driving it. Best if you can park on level ground and use the gears to hold the car and not engage the parking brake. A thin film of rust will form on the rotors. Don't worry, this won't hurt the brakes. Normal braking will remove the surface rust and this mild abrasive effect may stop the squeal. Also, search for "bedding in the brakes" for a longer-term remedy.
