UK Stainless manifold, hi flo cat and back box, any good?

Hi all,

4 RX8 and i thinnk i have an issue! Im addicted, but have never really tuned one. Brought a rebuilt 2004 231 6speed manual, want to tune it. Any hints and tips to get the best from the engine.

Have looked at:

STainless exhause manifold
hi flo cat- I have to have cat as this is going to be a everydayer in the end!)
stainless back box
Cold air induction system
Ported inlet valve and polished throttle body

Anyone have any advice on makes for the above. Also any tips on how to tune the ECU, i know these are pretty highly tuned anyway, so i am not expecting to get to much from the chip. Is there a way to undo the **** up tuning mazda did on prelaunch to pass emissions- except by a 2009 R3 onwards!

Cheers, and great forum guyys by the way!

Matt

The only reliable and worth noting option you have with tuning an 8 is Cobb Accessport. Do some reading on this as there is lots of info on the forum. There are a bunch of things you can do on the car depending what you want to achieve and why. Most of the mods will be to protect your engine; others will be to add sound effect. As far as more power not much to be gained unless you go turbo or super charged.

Having said this there are quality mods and nonsense or useless ones. Upgrading your ingition system, keep the engine cooler, get rid of the cat is a good start. You want more sound get an intake (AEM, mazdaspeed, or racing beat) and an exhaust. Just to let you know things will get loud...I mean loud! Then you can upgrade your pulleys, flywheel. You can also look into different coiolver and springs setups as well as some light weight wheels....

Again depending how much you want to spend and why there are a bunch of different options. I suggest not to rush yourself. Do some reading as all these issues are explicitly covered on this forum.

Clean it up before you play with tuning... Check out the simple mods in the First $100 thread in my signature. After that, I would get a Cobb based tune by someone who knows what they are doing and get a lightened flywheel. Those are the things that made the biggest difference for me.
