Stalled while going 80mph down hill?!

So let me give you guys the history then to the problem..
2004 RX8
6 speed manual
76K Miles original motor
Racing beat tune
full exhaust header back
New plugs and wires 1500 miles ago
p2096 came on 700 miles prior to this, I cleaned the MAF and it went away.
Water temp - 198
Idle air temp - 125
Outside temp - 104
RPMS - 3700-4000
Gear - 6
Speed - 80~
Voltage 13.2
A/C was On
Oil was changed 1500 miles ago with the plugs and wires.
Gas was a little under half.

So I was cruising back from a trip, was driving all day.
I was going down hill on the freeway in 6th gear, foot off the throttle, and i was litterally just cruising down the hill when I noticed my RPMs stutter a little then the A/C kicked off and the all the power cut and dash lights all came on, it litterally stalled while in gear? I pulled off the the side and tried to start it, it just cranked over and over for 15 seconds then I stopped.. I walked to the front of the car popped the hood, looked everything over. I went back into the car to check if a CEL had came on, but nothing.

I went on to try to start it again, but nothing!
So in one last vain attempt to get it to start I gave it 1/4th throttle right when I cranked it over and held it for about 5-6 seconds and the engine turned on! It idled fine, temps were fine, NO CEL. I turned it off after letting it idle for about 2 minutes. I waited a few then turned it on again no issue, it drove fine as well.. I got home an hour later and still no cel or pending codes.

In the morning, turned on the car to find a code, P2096?
I have done some reading on what it could be but it could be a thousand things.
Last time this code came on I was on empty nearing the end of the reserve tank when it randomly popped on with no issues, cleaned the MAF per suggestion and it stayed away until today.

Anyone have any ideas?
I can provide more information if needed.
I checked as best as I know for any vacuum leaks, did not find any.. I do have the vfad disconnected but I did seal the hose.

Never had an issue prior to this with the car.

edit: I also had put a bottle of injector cleaner in after running 6oz of premix last tank.. Hadn't ran cleaner in awhile and autozone had a decent deal when i was buying more premix.
I use lucas premix btw.

i never had a problem when i used injector cleaner. maybe its something to do with the maf wires or maybe your maf is starting to go bad. you did put the injector cleaner in with while having a full tank of gas right?

Your engine is dying. if you are still under warranty ,try to get it. if not, well, your call.

Why? Cuz Mazda murdered almost all 2004, some 2005, and not so much 2006-2008. Thanks to their "smart" ideas.

See if the MAF and/or accordian hose is oil gorped. High speed decel increases manifold vacuum to max which may be sucking oil past a seal somewhere.

Can you give me a little more info nycgps or something to read?
MAF and intake hose are oil free, I also use the long funnel to prevent any accidental oil in the intake ^-^

I don't think he's asking about the warranty. He seems to be asking for the relation between his symptoms, the P2096 code, and whatever it is that you say Mazda did to murder the early Renesis engines. I'm also curious about the specific smart ideas you referred to.

Yeah thank you Ken, I was curious with what reasoning you have nycgps for saying why the engine is dead, can you give me further information on how you came to that conclusion based off the information provided and why it isn't a separate issue? I would like to use the engine for as long as I could before replacing it as the warranty is over.

because when u de cel, it cuts fuel and if it just shuts off, it simply means the compression is not stable meaning there is a leak somewhere at the seals

Mazda murdered the engine with 2 nozzle pointing at corners and ultra low omp rate from early models. plus the system is almost the same for the past 2 decades and the injectors just clog up all the time. even less lube.

does ur car dies at red light? does the idle sometimes dip Down to something like 500 rpm after you have been driving around the traffic for at least 30 mins?

Car has never stalled at a red light, knock on wood.

Idle has not dropped below 700, unless it was my error, after driving for 30mins +

I have read many of the common issues for the failure of the 04 engine and I seem to have none as of yet.

Could my spark plugs have over heated some how? I know it's a very odd ball question but it's one of the only other issues I could imagine. That or my fuel filter is clogging, fuel pump dying/shorted?

Compression on second rotor 7.2 7.0 and 6.9 as oppose to the front rotor being at 7.6 7.8 and 7.6 and the rx8 has twice since I have owned it thrown a lean code bank 2, once randomly (cleaned maf and it disappeared) second time the morning after this incident (cleared it via scan gauge and it hasn't returned)

The rx8 idle's at 810ish average.

I have never replaced nor checked the fuel filter and I do run shell 91 with 6-8oz of Lucas 2Stroke premix.

The compression tests were taken prior to a seafoam treatment at 58k miles.. it now has 76k.

Shell, I thought of that but NYCGPS brought up the fuel cut. Since I was in gear and coasting, I also would of thought the fuel pump would throw a code, for a fault or malfunction.

Do you have a small exhaust leak? at the manifold or the manifold/midpipe connector?

2096 is a lean code if I recall....could be fuel delivery or an o2 sensor code as well...

If you have an accessport.....do a log with ST and LT fuel trims on it and see where and what the trims are....that will help.
