Lowest temp I remember starting in was 18 F. Like the previous poster said, sounds like a bad battery. If the battery is in very bad shape, you might not start even with another car giving you a jump start. Just watch it with the stock tires, they don't seem to have much grip at low temperatures.

The dealer managed to flood the engine twice when they tried to start it. We've luckily never flooded it, though we killed the battery once when it was -30F. A jump was
sufficient to get it started.
I think the key to getting the car started in the cold is to keep the ignition switched turned until it catches, even if it seems like your cranking it for a really long time - much longer than you would crank in any other car.
The anti-flood protocol says to keep the ignition switch turned for 8 sec before releasing. We count to make sure we don't hold the ignition on for more than 8 sec and possibly burn out the starter, but the engine always catches before that.
I'd be interested in hearing whether anyone else has tricks for getting her started when its really cold.

The same method starting. One time before it catch up.
It took for a while to understand that two-three series of cranking as for it piston engine is useless.
Usually engine catches up at 4-5 sec of cranking. No matter how long it was stay, one night or seven.
Its amazing, but I noticed that it even better catching up if stayed more nights than just one!

started fine
We have our battery disconnectted but reconnected and charge for an hour every 5 weeks then start it in the garage. Last week on Wednesday night it started without issue at -24 F here in northern MN, maybe it was a little warmer inside the garage but not much. It did crank slowly but fired off and warmed up nicely. It still has the 5w30 Valvoline durablend from last fall in it. That's the deal>

Well, after being towed 5 times because of the engine flooded, I was ready to sell my RX-8 back to the dealer since I have a lot of meeting where I have to be on time...
The dealership told me that they received this notice from MAzda headquarter that installing a high velocity starter will take take of the problem.
Well, it did! My RX-8 is now starting like a charm even when it's really cold outside and I'm leaving in Quebec so it can get really cold up here.
