Thumbs down strang boggin

Ok, I recently came home from a long trip up north with the 8, as Iv been very babish with it.. doing the proper break in before winding it up to higher RPM.. so now I have 5k on it with a oil change at 3,500 and noticed when i did raise the RMP up past 6-8 it really bogs out. liek it doesnt want to go any higher in any gear.. so from start in 1st.. cluch in and out raise gas it and around 5-6and past it bogs and full gas and wont even redline. just hang and seems like its just not gettin any faster.. so somthing must be wrong right.. no enough fuel or air. or what.... I plan on taking it in. just wanted to see what you guys think.....

the first half of that paragraph made sense and then it went to ****. Are you driving it and it wont go past 6k rpm or are you just sitting there with the clutch in and reving it (or out of gear with the clutch out)? I have never tried to rev my engine with the car out of gear past 4k, but I do remember somebody saying that if the clutch is pushed in or the car is not in gear then the computer limits the rpm. I may be wrong though.

haha yah sorry bout that.. was in a hurry.. Anyhoot. yes while (driving) and in any gear it seems to bog down when rpm exceed 5k and go thou 6k but then it climps up from 6-7 fast and bogs out again and doesnt even hit 8k rpms....

But when it (N) and parked and reved it revs all the way up to redline with out any bogging.... So I dunno what the deal is.

Sounds like a possible coil pack meltdown issue. Tell the delaership to check them specifically.

No way really??? The same thing happens to me.. I thought it had something to do with the air induction.. or opening and closing of the ports.. it happens right at 5k but then goes away... Also.. on the top end above 8 it runs like a pig.... It used to run hard to redline.. Maybe I have the same issue...

no, they never told me, and I've never seen it explained. I'm thinking it's something with a restriction that's not supposed to be there. after all- the rotary needs to breathe.

what build date is your car? check on your driver's side suicide door- there should be a label listing stuff like manu date and such

OOOOk... in the dealer and out within 8hrs, They gave me a rental and drove it to work and thought It be in for 2 days and they called right after I got out of work saying they fixed the car.. I was like whoa that was fast.. , Get over to the dealer and talkin about what caused the problem.. it was the cat that was causing the boggin. surgging rpms.. what happened inside the cat the **** was falling apart and cloggin the exhuast.. which was causing it to heat up and cause more damage to the cat till it almost clogged up all the way.. So no air was getting thou the exhuast....Well new one on there.. and wow.. soo much faster peepier and all around more tq.. duh.. more air flow. haha, well im happy with the service and eveything.. in and out with no problems..

ok i think i am having the same problem with my car.. i tried searching and this was the closest post that i could find to help me... i had my exhaust (grdeddy) and intake (aem) installed a couple of weeks ago and the first week was awesome and all of a sudden i am having problems above 6k rpms. it really sounds like the car chokes off and there is no power, or at least not like it was before. this happens in at least 1st 2nd and 3rd gear ( havent gotten 4th gear past 6k yet ). so my main question is does anybody have any ideas and will the dealership give me any crap because of the aftermarket exhaust and intake. also i didn't install them myself should i take it back to the shop that installed it? thanks in advance for any information!!!

It could be your cat, when they replaced the intake did they cap the vacuum inlet on the throttle body? You would probably hear a noise like a whistling if it wasn't capped. That would more than likely give you rough idle though. Must be your cat.

My cat went bad the first week I had my 8, didn't even make it to 200 miles on the car...

As for your mods, it depends on the dealer but it shouldn't matter... unless something was dropped in the either when they were installed. Might want to call who installed it to run it by them first before bringing it in.

thanks for the quick response!!!! i do hear a whistle when i step on it, but i thought thats what an intake was supposed to sound like. today im gonna try and see if i can find the throttle body to see if it was capped.

ok today i started up my car and had my wife step on the gas. right at the top of the intake where the CAI attaches to the throttle body (i think its the throttle body but i dont know much about cars) there is a sucking sound. i always thought it was coming from the filter part of the intake sitting behind the bumper, but it is coming from where i described earlier. if it is coming from the vaccum cap is there an easy fix that i can do myself or should i just take it back to the shop that installed the intake? thanks again for info!!!!

edit: ok i found the thread about the little red cap that goes on the bottom of the throttle body (im assuming that was the vaccum cap you were talking about) and it is securely in place... i was really hoping that was the problem as that would be a quick fix.

You can get vacuum caps from your local auto parts store. There are a few different sizes, I was able to get a multi-pack.
