All depends on which hose you want to put it in, several options.

Then there is the option to just pull the water temp off the OBD2 port, using the factory temp sender (which sends the actual temp)

OBD2 is a data network of hundreds of data feeds. You can't plug a water temp sender into an OBD2 wire any more than you could plug a light bulb into your cable TV line to get it to show the ESPN program showing.

The factory water temp sender has it's own wires going to the ECU, you would have to tap into that. And it's buried in the harness, you will need to look through some wiring diagrams to figure out which one.

My suggestion was to use an OBD2 data reader, like a bluetooth adapter paired with a smartphone, and just read the data available on the OBD2 network, rather than trying to tap wires, install senders, etc...

Something like this, which is my tablet on a floor mounted tablet stand, running the Torque app to display the available data fed from the OBD2 port (not in my RX-8, obviously, I used the same hardware/setup there too, just no pics of it)
