swaping engines...

So here is the idea that I have been playing with. Taking out my stock rx-8 motor and putting in a 13B-tt And then my plan would be to see if I could take the Rx-8's motor and put it in my 1985 rx-7, I'm not sure if it would work or not but I think it would be cool. Has any one else done that, or will it even fit???

Any advice would help

thanks
-Derek

Also what would be a good place for me to buy a 13b motor?

There are several cars, including the JIC drift car, that swaped the 13B-REW turbo motor out of the FD into the RX8. Its not a cheap swap but fairly straightforward. You would also want to swap the trany to take the power.

I would say its easyer to swap the motor into the RX8 than into the RX7, there is a 1st Gen RX7 that has a RX8 swap...pretty cool looking car, and in that body its the perfect ammount of power for a ~2000lb car!

Good luck!

what am I looking at cost wise for getting a 13b motor and stuff. Because I was looking at the turbo kits for the RX-8's and the SSR turbo cost $7,000 then you would still need it installed and tuned, so I was wondering how much of a difference would it be.
My ideal horsepower I want my RX-8 to have would be around 400 whp

How are you going to street drive that car in California? Actually it would be a EPA violation anywhere in the US. It just wouldn't be noticed in some locations.

Engine swap will NEVER BE STREET LEGAL.

You are NOT allowed to swap an older engine into a newer car. Therefore, swapping any engine prior to a 2004 model engine into an RX8 is illegal. Try and get your car inspected, that **** aint gonna fly.

just live somewhere that you dont get inspected and dont have to pass emissions.

so long as you can suspend your life to go live in the sticks.

Doesnt' the RX-8 ECU control some important systems such as ABS, TCS, DSC, and A/C?

So with an RX-7 engine those systems wouldn't be functional. Unless you did some serious rigging.

Those are luxury items in my book!
Quick rigging:
ABS...Move your foot up and down really fast on the pedal.
TCS...Don't launch in the rain.
DSC...Donuts are fun.
A/C...Windows.

This is just my opinion so take it with a gain of salt but swapping a 13B for a Renesis is like removing an LS6 from a Corvette and installing an LT1 or an L98. It's a backwards step in technology. The Renesis is easily capable of big power numbers. Now that we have alot of ecu options, we will start to see alot more power out of them. Don't judge performance potential by looking at Greddy turbo results. It's not a high perfomrnace turbo system. It's a street system. Take a kit such as SSR's turbo or the PTP and correctly tune it with a nice ecu such as the Interceptor-X and you'll have some very large numbers. Don't worry about the static compression ratio of the engine. It'll work just fine with good tuning. I'll take a Renesis over a 13B any day. Why not just keep all of the luxury items and still go fast? It makes far more sense to me. It's definintely possible to do.
