switched brand, more MPG
Since i started driving with my 97 m3, to now with the 04 rx8 i have ONLY used 93 sunoco. i get great performance with it, and what i thought to be good MPG.
4 days ago i switched to Shell v-power 93. i dont know why, but i get better MPG with it than sunoco??????
i know shell puts cleaners in there gas, but my 8 only has 20000 miles onit so, how dirty could it be, since i only used 93.....
i dont know but i get like almost 40 MPG more now that i only use shell 93??????
yes 40 MPG!!!!!!!
but for the price of it(40 cents more than sunoco 93) i better get something!

but seriously, I have *better* experience when I use Shell than Mobil. Actually This is the Chart, From Best to worst
Shell > BP > Citigo > Mobil
Yep Mobil is the worst. at least my local station's mobil is. (I tried a mobil station thats like 10 miles away and guess what, it has about the same mpg as BP so I dunno)
but 40 cents more? Dang. I always drive around my local stations a day before I need to fill up. (checking out prices)

wow. something in my gut says you calculated something wrong. thats too good to be true. wait a few tanks then lets see. if it is true, thatd b awesome. i also get better mileage with shell than other brands.

shell ADDS CLEANERS TO 93
and 93 is cleaner than 87. . . . . . . truth
but yea, i always hit the tripo to see how many miles i get, i got exactly 36 MPG more than i evergot useing sunoco, i drove the same, fast.
i dont know, im not going to argue about it, just reportin what i saw

stop flooding ur engines
he doesnt mean 36 mpg more, he prolly means 36 miles more per TANK. which is the difference of driving with the windows up for one day more...
36 MORE mpg means ud be gettin like 50 mpg in an rx8, u couldnt do that with the engine off...
ive noticed the exact opposite when i went from BP to shell. i got 13 mpg with bp and now im at around 10 with shell....who cares about 3 mpg when u drive a rotary anyway?
in fact im nervous of these so called detergents in fuel and how they are mixing with the oil being injected into the rotor housings, the detergents are there to clean out carbon and blah blah blah but what would happen if u mixed these detergents with oil that SHOULD be in the housings?.....but what do i kno, im just a stupid kid

I have about 1/2 tank of mobil crap left.
Im gonna try to use nothing but Shell for my next 5 fill-ups, maybe I should go top it off later with Shell (Its on my way to pepboys anyway)
I always use Premium anyway (no matter which brand) so price is not really a problem for me.

I usually just read into the forums, but THIS I've done the homework on. Keep in mind I run a base model w/ automatic (no turbo). Having moved from Lousiana where Shell & BP are some of the major distributors (& Sunoco is practically unheard of, except on NASCAR) to New Jersey where Sunoco is a major distributor of fuels, the life of my RX8 has had roughly a year and a half of Shell and a year and half of Sunoco- running premiuim 93 (Occassionally running Sunoco's higher octane when it's available- beats all numbers below)
3 years & 50,000 miles of driving my RX has taught me to seek out Shell stations for fuel quality & economy purposes. I don't even like PA & NJ Shell stations! For both locations and brands I've commuted roughly 25 miles a day each way= 50 miles a day= 39,000 in work travel over 3 years
I get an average of 24.5 MPG with Shell 93
I get an average of 23.5 MPG with Sunoco 93
15.9 gallon tank on stock RX8 according to owner's manual (for what that's worth)
So, On Average I get one extra mile out of each gallon of Shell fuel I put into my car- that would be 15.9 miles extra out of each full tank of gas- I wish it would make it 40, but that sounds pretty crazy to me.
Nearly all of my milage is highway & under 75mph so I've been more than a little upset about not meeting the mazda numbers below (I'm also a penny pincher- what's worse is that here Sunoco always costs more per gallon over Shell!)
Estimated MPG from Mazda USA's site
Required fuel Premium Unleaded 91 octane
EPA Mileage, City/Highway (mpg) AT 18 / 25
EPA Mileage, City/Highway (mpg) MT 18 / 24
Quite frankly, I've noticed better fuel economy after changing the oil, tranmission fluid, tires, pressure, & rotation, but only for short intervals. And no, I don't work for Shell- in fact, I hate thier service. Helpful?

i like the shell v-power too. I notice a bit of extra power and better mpg. And it's actually cheaper here in my immediate area than the crappy racetrack gas -- i guess that's because the shells are all on the outskirts of town. I dunno. But i drive the extra five miles to get it, that's for sure.

if you are talking of that "top tier gasoline" for one of the third parties also take a look for qwicktrip stores. if you look around enough you will notice it seems very much so that qwicktrip almost seems to be the creator of top tier gasoline as they share the same address same contacts and so forth.
if you do have proof though please show it as I have a good understanding of cars but also understand that octane is not how clean it burns. and depending on the additive used higher octane can actually burn unclean compared to some lower octane fuels .all it means is how much energy is needed to get the chemical reaction going.

here are some of the sites showing what I am talking about and none mention cleaner burning. the FTC site even says that octane will not igive cleaner burning fuels.
though I will give you part of it taht depending on the fuel it might have a higher octane and burn cleaner then lower octane fuels but it isn't a factor of octane it is more of what you are burning kinda like E85 will burn cleaner but it isn't octane related just like lead addative to gas will make more octane adn burn worse

you get 2 kinds of gas (midle east or venezuela) i rather buy from venezuela (sonuco, citgo) they haven't bomb me yet. if i need to clean the injector i use red line or BG there goes your difference in price

not to argue, but i have worked in a sunoco gas station/auto shop for 2 years in high school, and when smog testing, 93 octain puts out less emmissions than 87, its a fack, we have tested it.
93 burns more completley, thus less unburnt particals, there is really no need to discuss this, i have done it.
higher octane dose not detonate easlily because its more flammable, thus its needed for high out put engines. more flammable=more complete burn
93 will also reduce the amount of gunk deposit on cylinders, and valves of cylinder type engines. because its higher quality
the whole lead thing about being high octane, its fu'kin stupid because you said it your self, IT HAS LEAD IN IT
NO SH*t IT DOSE NOT BURN CLEAN< IT HAS LEAD!!!!!!!
We are talking about pump station unleaded 93.
