is there any good??
i just bought a 2005 rx8 and all ive read is negative reviews about the "8" on the net, is there any good to this car (and engine)? also, is it not common to see an rx8 reach 100,000 miles? mine has 20,000 miles on it and im very meticulous when it comes to car care...i always do as the owners manual states. i need this car to last me at least 5 years...i still have about 1.5 years left on the warranty, but was this car a bad choice?

so, your rx8 is fine, but you're worried because some people had issues? Search for any car, any brand, and model. Every car will have issues that people complain about. Most RX-8 owners appear to be fine. Mazda usually takes care of you while under warranty.

There are plenty of issues with the rx-8 that do not stem from abuse. We have issues with the engine due to the omp and climate, we have faulty transmissions (syncros, gears, etc) and clutch brackets. There are issues with the visor, headlight and tail lights retaining water or getting foggy, the list is fairly long... but I think most people do not have major issues.

Extraordinary Engineering
The RX8 is for enthusiasts.
What I mean by that is the car is barely practical (a compliment for a sports car), quirky (lovable), gets bad mileage (who cares) and requires a bit more care than some cars.
However, it also handles great and loves (needs) to rev and puts a smile on the face of anyone who can appreciate a well balanced driver's car.
I've not had this much fun with a car in 20 years. I hope that answers your question.

You'll be fine. As with any car that you want to last, follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. The engine will stand up to hard running better than conventional engines. And there is no timing belt to replace every 60K.
Most of the professionally written reviews I found of the 8 were positive. Learn to distinguish those from the amateur reviews - some of which seem to be dry-labbed. If you hunt on-line forums for information any product, you'll scare yourself to death.

It's not an rx-8, but I have a 25 year old rx-7 on it's original engine (no rebuild) with just over 200k. I took it on a 1000km each way road trip last summer. Plenty reliable. I still don't know why people think rotary engines are less reliable, not many piston engines from 1982 do as well.
