i picked up a nifty little third eye for diagnosing engines, and well this one wasn't a big surprise. sorry for the bad picture quality, it's a picture of a picture... and yes all that debris is metal shavings.

'04 that seized up on the track at this year's sevenstock. don't think i will be checking the rear rotor.. the engine free spins now after unlocking it so i'm sure they both look very similar. just sitting here waiting on word about the turbo so figured i would actually see what went on.

Where did you get the third eye from?
mine broke and they're extremely expensive here

this engine is scrap, for simplicity sake it's just going to get a mazda reman, if it hadn't had a dramatic failure it would just get seal upgrades and porting left alone, maybe touched up slightly for the turbo. i'm not even going to bother tearing it apart to see what is worth reusing.

harbor freight has them on sale for $60-190 at the moment. the more expensive version can fit inside the engine via the spark plug holes. since it's only 2 blocks away it's cheaper than dealing with the tool trucks, by a large margin for some things. you can order them online, since i doubt you have one nearby but i would get the warranty since they are cheap asian made products and many people have even had them DOA. this one works quite well, and the resolution is decent, especially for the price.

Yeah, don't even know why I said that. LoL that apex would chew the iron up.

the rotor and housing are for sure junk, likely the irons as well so i know at least half the engine is unsalvageable.

I wasn't aware our seals could regenerate themselves.
