Thinking about getting a RX8. Need info.

I am thinking about picking one of these up on the cheap. Got a few questions.
So anyone throw other motors in these cars besides 13b? like sr20s? or ls1s?
Do these get good traction for drifting? I have heard they don't get much grip.
How much angle can you get out of these?
Who builds these for drifting and does it well?
Anyone got some links to some build threads?
How light can you get these in face car form? 2500 pounds or less?
Who makes good suspension stuff? Not ebay ****.
If i pick up a RX8 with some damage what should I look for the car to be totaled and repairable? Frame damage that is unrepairable? certain areas of the car that are weak?
Whats the difference in series 1 and series 2?
I know I am asking alot of info instead to looking around for hours but I know someone could point me in the right direction .

Thanks Joshua Guild

You are so funny and don't know ****.

The problem is the car gets too much grip because it is one of the best handling cars ever made.

That's why you can't drift.

AND SEARCH......... Your answers are every where in the forum including stickies.

Suspension stuff.... maybe a little more searching before you throw random statements out there would be a good idea.

Be prepared for a heavy bill, "Suspension stuff" such as coilovers run you $1,000+, for the real ones anyway.

As for drifting, this car has some of the best handling and traction, this isnt Tokyo Drift where there is 'Movie Magic'.

Dont buy a car that is wrecked, the quarter panels or doors if ruined are going to cost you crazy cash, even to fix them since they are aluminum i believe...? correct me if im wrong.

I got the info from a FD driver who finished in the top 10 last year and has alot of racing experience. And yeah I don't know anything thats why I am on a forum asking questions.

Why is it the best handling car ever made?

I was hoping this wasn't a forum of know it all **** talkers who don't give answers.

I am not going to be able to test drive it on the track or rail on it on a test drive. I did search this forum and didn't see anything. Is there a bigger forum for RX8s? Maybe some links to a build thread you think I should look at? <---question i did ask in my orginal post.

This is pretty much the biggest RX-8 forum. There are competition and aftermarket performance sub-forums that may have answers to your questions. The search function here is not particulaly good. The best way to look for answers is to browse those forums - subject lines for serious topics tend to be pretty good. The FAQs are not very thorough, but otherwise the stickies tend to be good. There's a sticky on parts weight, which addresses one of your questions. There are a few threads on engine swaps, but since people usually buy a rotary because of the engine it's not that common.

Hope this helps. Have a blast with whatever you get.

The racing/autocross forum is a good place to learn about suspension, but you will get smack-talked (sort of like above) of you bring up drifting. There is a drifting forum here, but I don't know how active it is.

As for suspension in general, most of the main players make stuff for the RX-8. Tien, JIC, Stance, Bilstein, KW, etc. Most of the experienced racers (myself included) tend to prefer the later two I mentioned, but I don't know what is needed in drift so take my opinion with a grain of salt. There are several vendors on the forum that sell suspension bits, and I'll also plug Goodwin racing.

I know people are putting different engines in the RX-8. Right now, there is a thread in the racing section that discusses alignments for a V8 RX-8; perhaps you could PM that user and see if he could point you to some threads.

Good luck!
