throttle body

This week end I want to clean my throttle body but I’ve never done it before. Can anyone help me where do I start? Is there a procedure I can go by? Oh and btw would I need a new gasket for the throttle body after I take it off? ,thanks

it doesn't require a new gasket. just remove the (4) 12mm bolts and stick those bolts into the TB coolant passage as you remove it.

grease around where the brass plates meets the metal so it doesn't stick.

i had mine polished to take advantage of this procedure (hint hint)

Easily removed. TrochoidMagic's suggestions are great. Also, have a peek at this:

Well, it's not just polishing but yeah. I grind a bit of the metal out and remove the 'lip' at the bottom that's above the throttle butterfly. Also flare out the top prior to finishing it up. It has an effect and it's fairly substantial.

I don't have any dyno results yet. I've tested it on one non-turbo 8 (mostly stock) and one turbocharged 8 using the Mazsport hardware. The results are the same as they've been on the older rotaries both non-turbo and turbo: Quicker throttle response, noticably better midrange (NA), slightly higher peak power (both NA and turbo), slightly louder exhaust (both), more whistly turbo, and lots better boost response.

thank you BDC.

thats what i basically did to mine. i smoothened it out near the venturi lip, and rounded out the entrance edge of the TB where the coupling meets the TB. not soo much boring over, but more focused on polishing and smoothening out.

i also took advantage of the coolant hoses by connecting them together with a small fluid filter. just trying to knock out 3 birds with 1 stone.

call it OCD... but on a motor where we can't get multi-angle valve jobs, perfecting on minor touch-ups is all worth the time to me.

i guess i'm the type who actually polishes the openings of a brand new headers before i actually install it. quality of parts over quantity...

anyway, nicely cleaned TB.

I may have to do this soon. I know just a polish made a distinguishable difference in my grand prix that I used to drive. I don't see why the 8 wouldn't benefit from it too.

mr dremel, here I come!

^^it won't be be felt on the butt dyno.

but there leaves room for other mods with the coolant hose now just running in circulation.

hmm..... looks like i might have to do something about that.

future mod!
