Throttle Body unit needed. Are there aftermarket units???
Hi,
Just took my 2004 RX-8 into the shop for 60K tune up and the Mech says the Throttle Body needs to be replaced. I have no idea on the costs yet. Mech says too much clearance is allowing the engine to stall during idle. Anyone know how hard it is to rebuild a Throttle body, or Where to buy a New, Rebuilt or Aftermarket one? I'm actually getting the car ready to sell and want to make sure its in excellent condition before selling. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ...Rocket

It's NOT your throttle body.
Well, it's possible that it is. However, in my ~6 years here, I have seen reports of actual failed throttle bodies... twice? But see 1-5 times per month someone saying that a mechanic or dealer thinks that the throttle body needs replacing.
The usual problems are actually one or more of:
- Vacuum leak
- Compression loss
- Ignition failure
- Fuel Pump failure
- MAF dirty
- O2 sensor failure
- E-shaft sensor dirty
and possibly some more.
Your engine isn't stalling because of the throttle body, and replacing the throttle body won't solve your problem.
Go through more detail on the symptoms you are seeing and we can help you in the right direction.
For an explicit answer however, there is only 1 other throttle body I am aware of, the one Oldragger used. You will probably have to find his build thread to see what his research found.

Kind of old post. But I need a throttle body. This is the closest I've search in 6days up to 10 pages. All just saying reg mantaince is needed. Or unsolved awnsers. So is there a actual better throttle body for the 04 rx8?
Can't post anything, Just reply. Trying to find noob should read page. Anyways off topic.
Thanks for any help. I'm still going to search.

there is nothing wrong with stock throttlebody. in fact OP's issue is NOT even throttlebody related, the clearance is just pure bullshit, he needed a better mech than the one he went to.

Mazda Parts - Discount factory (OEM) Mazda parts and accessories at Park Mazda OEM Parts
BRAND NEW ''T B'' from a Mazda dealer $514.83 includes shipping.
I agree with RIWWP. Check ignition/coils/battery first.
All Mazda TB's are very reliable.
There is no updated or better TB, same for all RX-8's.
