time for the 8 to do a tune up, where is the best place I can get them?

hey guys, just wondering if any of you guys had done performed a tune up on your 8 yet, mine is about 2000 miles past due and I think it is time for me to tune mine up

I know one thing for sure is that, I'll need some spark plugs, planning to order them from sparkplugs.com

I also need some new ignition cord and other goodies, could any DIY people tell me what kind of stuff I need to order so I can buy all the parts for the tune up? (and if you could provide me with a website of where I may get them for cheap, that would be even better :P)

thanks for the help in advance

You need to tell people what tune up/mileage. Also helps if you let people know, year, manual/auto, and anything else. Lastly, it works WONDERS to look in the m-a-n-u-a-l that describes exactly what needs Inspected or Replaced and at what intervals.

my bad, my bad, this would be my first tune up at 37000 miles, MT, I hit close to 40k now,

and no, the manual only tells you to "bring your mazda rx8 to a mazda dealership for tune up and inspection after **** miles" something like that

2004 RX-8 Owners Manual: Section 8 "Maintenance", Page 8-5 entitled "Scheduled Maintenance: Schedule 2".

Now tell me again it only tells you to go to the dealer.

Heres what I would do:

Replace all fluids. Do engine oil/filter change, drain and refill your coolant, trans, and rear diff. Use a synthetic oil such as Redline in the trans and diff.

Get new spark plugs from sparkplugs.com

Get new aftermarket spark plug wires. I went with Magnecor. Think I got them from Mazdatrix.

Replace Coils with OEM coils.

Replace air filter, or clean if you have a serviceable type air cleaner such as K&N.

Also inspect your belts and see if they need replaced.

This will be a couple hundred bucks, but well worth it. It will help protect your 8 from issues in the future and you will be amazed at how much better it will drive with new coils/plugs/wires.

If anyone thinks I left anything out please feel free to add to my list.

I just changed myself the plugs (NGK), wires (Magnecor) and coils (OEM) at 25,000 miles last week and the car is amazing!

I did my 'tune up' at around 25,000 miles. Here's what I recommend
  • If you haven't had your fluids flushed, this is a good time to do it. Transmission, Differential, and even Coolant if you're feeling up to it.
  • Change your spark plugs. www.onlinemazdaparts.com carries OEM plugs
  • Replace spark plug wires. www.racingbeat.com has some great wires. (it's what I use in my 8)
  • Check your coil packs to make sure they're still working properly. www.finishlineperformance.com has a TSB that will show you how to inspect them.
