Transmission is going bad... Have it rebuilt or swap it out?

My second and fourth gear grind during high rpm/ hard shifts... i think its the syncros.. i just changed the clutch and flywheel 5 months ago and it looks like i gotta bring the tranny down agian. Should i have a shop rebuild it? I heard this tranny is fragile so if i can get a stronger one that would be great( direct swap no mods). Any thoughts??

09+ Transmission is direct swap.

you might be able to get a used 09+ tranny for 1K? consider a completely new one cost around 2k ?

unless you can rebuild it for less than 500 bux(does not include labor) I suggest you to get a used 09+ tranny and just swap it.

give Mazmart a call. they will be able to hook u up with something decent.

The 09+ tranny is stronger, however it is newer and will probably cost more.
My trans got to the point where reverse was gone, first was on the way out and all the other gears (except 5th) were making noise. It would have cost too much to rebuild. I found a place where I could get a used trans (04) installed for $1250. I've had it for 3 months now and seems to be working great.

Parts for rebuilds are really expensive Better to find a low mile wrecker...I got one for less than $500 with 3200miles on it...look around....they are out there

The 09+ are $2500 or more from the dealer plus about $500+ for the install if they are nice.....

Question - I completely believe you, but WHY is the 09+ better? What makes it "stronger"? Better synchro's somehow? I remember the 1st gen tranny's had a problem with the shift forks (I dont honestly know what those are lol)....has that been fixed?

(I'm in the same boat with 2nd and 4th. May do tranny clutch and flywheel all together soon...)

Thanks!

They are a whole different unit, not just an upgrade. It's a matter of design

I know its a direct swap fit wise, and bell housing, but isnt there a few electrical parts that need a work around?

I know I read someone swapped an 09 into a 04 or 05, but I cant remember who.

I would also like to know who did the swap. I would like to go to 09+ transmission, but I want my back up lights to work.

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. If anyone knows, I would also appreciate it.
