Question Transmission Questions

I was going down Rt1 last night and I went to shift into 5th and then I heard a grind(I was driving slow and normal). Then I couldn't get it to go into 5th! I'm thinking why would it do that if I just grinded the gear on accident. I pull over and try to get it into 5th and still nothing. But it will go into every other gear including reverse. Finally after awhile I get it to go in. I'm thinking that I was pushing down on the shifter whiling trying to engage it as if I was going into reverse.

My question is does any one thing my Transmission is going to go? I hardly ever drive the car hard. I do accelerate fast sometimes but who doesn't. I was also thinking it could have been the ACT clutch setup I installed or a bent shaft. But I don't know, maybe you guys could help me a little.

By the way how much would a new Trans cost out of pocket?

Iv'e been having sort of the same issuses with mine. I as well baby the hell out of it, but i took it to the track this weekend and I noticed that the training grinds when going 3rd to 4th at 9,000 rpm. I took it to the dealer and they said that they couldn't test drive at that high of speed. So they are going to order a special synthetic gear oil and hopfully that will take care of the problem.

My belief is that all 6 gears and reverse should be available for use. If you can't get the transmission into 5th gear then something is wrong. One (or even a few) missed shifts should not make any gear unavailable.

I would suggest taking your RX-8 in for service ASAP.

I've driven the car all day and there seems not to be a problem any more. Maybe it was just me.

I would take her out on the highway again and repeat the type of gear change again. If it works fine if not just take it in and have the dealer fix it

Thats what I did. I was on and off of the highway for 4 hours today without any problems. It must have been my dumb *** switching the gears a different way or something. :D
