Transmission Sound...any ideas?
My clutch has been slipping lately which is obviously a sign of wear. The pedal feels very soft (easily depressed) and the slipping occurs especially in 4th/5th/6th gears.
I've ordered a new ACT Clutch and Fidanza flywheel.
My worry, though, is that ever since the clutch slipping there's been an on and off whirring sound in the RPM range of about 2000-4000. It's there on some days, not on others. It sounds where the synchros whistling would normally come from, but instead, it sounds like an RC car....it doesn't sound natural at all. It happens when the RPMs are dropping (whether I'm just slowing down or engine breaking) and sometimes when I'm slowly accelerating.
The dealership told me that would have to take out the transmission to see what's going on, but no way am I paying them $650 for labor.
Any ideas as to what it is? Will the sound go away after I put in the new clutch?

Id say wait untill the clutch is install untill you worry too much. If the sound goes away, good, it was the clutch, if not, take it to a tranny shop and see if they can diagnos the problem without dropping the tranny.
Personally I think its probably just the worn clutch, and I hope for your walletts sake it is! Good luck!

40k, been through a lot of abuse, not surprised it's going out.
I got a new pressure plate so hopefully that clears it up.
I don't think it's related to any of those bulletins, thanks though.
I think I'm gonna go read about synchros, because basically, the whirring sound replaces the synchro's normal sound.

Dont know if my problem is a transmission problem. My ride is a 1 year old 4AT. I seem to be expriencing the following problem:
When it changes down from 3rd gear to 2nd, e.g. slowing down on approaching a hump and accelerating after that on 2nd. I tend to get a jolt even if I just gently tap the accelerator when accelerating out on 2nd gear. No problems accelerating on 1st or 3rd gear. Is this a gear box or transmission problem? Anybody can advise?
