Trouble starting

I have noticed recently on a few occasions. When I turn the key it takes a good 3-5 seconds to get the engine to finally turn over.

Any possible reason?

Bad battery connections?
Weak battery?
Bad plugs?
Bad wires?
Bad coils?
Dirty MAF or vacuum leak?

Then it starts to get ugly.

Did I miss any guys?

Start easy, just because your lights all work and it tries to crank over does NOT mean your battery is okay and/or that your connections are clean.

Its a 2004, I have not flooded the car, and I'm under 34,000 miles. I drive the car at about 7 in the morning to school its about a 5 minute drive. Probably the cause of possible flooding?

go the dealership and tell them you're having lots of trouble starting the car. Sometimes you'll crank the key and it does not start.
(slight exaggeration, yes but it'll help you get that bulletin performed)

Upgraded starter, battery, and spark plugs here you come.

stupid question but i have a friend with the same problem but is out of warranty.... will the TSB still cover it even though hes out? Or will they perform it then charge him? Thanks guys :D

BTW i tried the de-flooding by taking out plugs, drying, putting other ones in. The plugs werent new but not flooded. Nothing worked there...

Re-read Jedi's post above, and then when at the dealer.........make sure that they know it doesn't happen all the time, but that it does occur.

I had similar symptoms and they did just what Jedi said. That was a year or so ago and it has been fine since then.

I was gonna schedule maintance to get fluids and tires checked and all and figured when I drop it off I'll explain that I have a very frequent problem of the crank not starting the car, its not all the time but quite often and most random times

Be nice and polite, insist that it only happens intermittently, and bring them a box of donuts.

You should have no problem getting the work done if you give them donuts.

lol my local delaership keeps boxes of donuts in the loby of the sales dept, next time im there im gonna take the box and walk accross the street to the svc dept and tell them its a gift from the bottom of my heart lol

i had this problem and a good fix was swappin plugs, wires and coils...although im at nearly double your mileage. It desperately needed to be done cause my coils were done andm y plugs were fouled up baaaad. I also did some other maintainance and cleaned the TB and ran seafoam through the BB line. after i was ll done the car ran like a champ and started instantaneously.

since you are under waranty i sugest you go that route but if u cant get the tsb done for whatever reason i suggest you do some of what i did, even if it doesnt entirely fix the problem it should help in some way or another cause thats all stuff which needs to be done anyway.
