Trunk rusting from spoiler install?
so I took a mazdaspeed replica spoiler to a shop today to get a quote for install, and he advised me not to install it I'm going to drive the car for years to come ( >3-5yrs), because eventually the drill hole be start rusting from side the trunk and eventually causes crap like water leakage?
is it true?? or thats just from poor workmanship?

If the spoiler is installed properly there should be no problem. Once the holes for the spoiler are drilled out, it's advisable to dab on some rustoleum or primer (with a q-tip) to protect the bare metal surface, just as the paint does to the steel of the car. Depending on the wing/spoiler used, a gasket is then placed between the spoiler and car metal which helps keep water out from even entering the drill holes.
One other thing to look out for if adding an spoiler aftermarket - the weight of it. The trunk lifts should be able to be adjusted for the additional weight of the wing if needed. Otherwise, if there is not enough support from the lifts (actuators), the trunk will slam closed if not eased closed by hand.

proper installation is the key. My MS spoiler has been on for 2.5 years and no problems at all. Proper installation is the key

depends on how mechanically inclined you are. I just paid a shop to do it to be on the safe side

i did mine three years ago with a x-men wing(some like it some don't)but the key to instalinf yourself is measure three times and test fit often and be sure you get some touch up paint to out around the holes to keep it from rusting.i took mine off last week to check the sealing and what not only to find it never leaked and never rusted at all.since then i put it back on and love it still!!
