TSB MSP16 caused car to stall

Ok, so all things being equal that I am fairly still a noob to the rx8 car. Since I bought the car last October.

I thought I would share my last expreince at *** Mazda in Bradenton, FL

I recently just broke 55k on my ride. Of course the dealer is hitting my up for everythign that needs to be serviced.

Oil Change
Fuel induction cleaning
Rear diff service
Transmission service for 6sp

I had brought it in for the oil change and had notice the shifting did not feel as crisp as it should. So I elected to do the transmission service as well. They informed me there was a TSB called the MSP16 that need to be perform on the ECU.

I was told for eveything it would take about 2 hours for everything. After being there for a 2 1/2 hours I had notice the guy working on my car had been going in and out of the back for the last 45 minutes. He then stood up front by the service writer, who was joined by the other service writer for about 15 minutes what look like a serious talking.

So I figure Iwould invite myself into the conversatio. As soon as I walked up the service tech and the other writer walked off. Service tech could not even look me in the eye. I asked what was going on; the service writer told me that when the perform the TSB the car would no longer stay running at idle.

She then suggested that I should get the fuel induction cleaning, because when the do the TSB Mazda assume that there is no carbon build up and the system has been cleaned.

Of course I refused and explained that the car idle fine before the perform the service. Suddenly about 30 minutes later it was running fine.

Now t reason I am putting this all down I just saw a post from another local 8 owner who had the same issue after the TSB. They did a compression test and the compression was really low.

I am hoping that if other come foward to see if they are having the same issue. I have attached the link to the TSB for others to read as well.

First off,

Fuel induction cleaning is pure utter ACME bullshit. Dont spend a penny on it.

Im not sure how good you're with wrenches, but its not really that difficult to change transmission oil. just need to loosen up the fill hole first, then the drain hole, drain the old stuff out, buy new gasket and put the drain hole back first, go up to your car, pry the console up, take the shifter out (hold by 4 10mm bolts), then just pour tranny fluid into the hole until stuff is coming outa the fill hole down there. Then go back down again with new fill hole gasket and put the plug back. then just put your shifter back.

For the gasket I mention, you can get them from any Mazda dealer for maybe a buck a piece. you might be able to get away with the old gasket/washer, but why risk it ?

it sounds complex but it takes about 30 minutes to do it (if you take your time)

rear diff is a bit tricky, cuz u need a hand pump thing to pump the oil up to the fill hole, u can buy a hand pump at almost any autoparts store.

Im surprised that they just "noticeD" that you need MSP16 done, cuz that recall came out looooong time ago. sounds like another bad dealership.

Anyway, you should've asked for a compression test. and remember you NEED to MAKE SURE that they give you a copy of the number with engine RPM. post them up here.

Next thing, the bad idle can come from a bad Throttle body, Tell them to plug in the WDS and check it. Its a 500 bux part.

for years now after an ecu reset, my car takes about 10 minutes of my gentley feathering the throttle to help it learn to idle...
