The K&N Typhoon II kit has some great parts such as good looks, as well as a great sound. Still, the short ram design isn't really the best for the rotary due to the excessive amounts of motor heat that the intake catches.

If you're going to part with the K&N intake I would invest in something with proven results such as the RB intake or a true CAI such as the AEM or Mazdaspeed intake.

You can find lots of intake information if you search for it. I've owned the v.2 since I bought my 05 but I can't stomach dropping another $300 for a new intake that doesn't do much.

i guess i should explain a lil more. i dont really care about hp gains since most intakes make minimal gains. all i want to be able to do is get my car to idle and not die for the cheapest cost. i do not plan to keep my car for only 6 more months so i just want it to drive well. thanks for your help though i appreciate it

The K&N V1 is majorly flawed due to the way the filter is designed. Just replace it with a Dome/Spider or a filter with a reverse cone in it. That should help ALOT.

Version 1's filter design and lack of the air flow straightener were really bad. Its a result of the *rush to market*.

I know that K&N v1 WILL cause idle issue and MIGHT cause it to die off. but it should NOT happen too often.

If you have stock airbox, put it back and see what happens. Cuz I have a feeling its more like your engine is having issue (or motor mount) than the intake itself.

What was "wrong" with the filter design?

I agree the V.1 sucks, but that is because of the tube and the position of the MAF in a bad air stream.
But what does the actual filter have to do with that?

For idle quality, nothing is better than the OE airbox.

Yeah, the filter itself is a nice piece, very large area and a CF cap - Honda kids love 'em!

Sorry my bad, I should've said it clearly

i meant the shape of the filter, it cant even suck air, the air hole is in the front, but instead of position it to the front, the V1 sucks everywhere else BUT the front. Theres no air coming from the bottom, and all the air from the *top* were hot air ...

I like the Filter itself.

They position the V1 and V2 (MAF) around the same location.

no its not the motor mount thers no bad vibration or anything like that. just rough idle sometimes fron 800-around 2500rpm it will bounce back n forth then just die. or ill be driving and it will die. now could be motor problem but ive took it into the dealer and they tried fixing it but they said the maf was taking too much airflow and that was why its so bad. i know dealership dealers sometimes will tell what ever if you have aftermarket parts but this time they are telling the truth. they have tried to fix it but are unable. ima take it in again to have motor looked at but i need to just get the whole intake v.1 off it and replace it with w/e.

if the rpm jumps rapidly from 800 to like 2K ish, your netural switch might have a problem

the stock airbox aint that cheap, you can ask our Forum Vendors here say, BAGMAN1 @ OnlineMazda Parts or Tommy @ RosenthalMazda

You might want to check to see if anybody is selling their old stock intake

Had the v.1 for 2 years. Easy fix. Remove and throw away. Go with the MS CAI. Intake temps went down 100 degrees on average. No question that many issues came from that piece of crap. SR intakes open to the engine bay are for FI & intercooled motors.

I think for FI cars you will need even *cooler* air ...

Exactly.

For every degree you raise the temp before the compressor, it comes out another ~3° higher after the compressor or more.
There is only so much you can do with an intercooler.
