Up in smoke!! :x

I get better information here than the local mazda/chevrolet/cadillac/jeep dealer lol.. so i thoguht i ask you guys if you know whats going on..

today as i was driving my car was running fine. so i was at the stop sign and i thought id red line my car for the day and next thing you know the car just blow out a boat load of smoke out the exhaust. the engine wouldnt go past 5500RPMS.. it would just loose throttle and fall back down..

does anyone know why this would happen. i just filled a quart more of oil yesturday and im sure its still not full.. its running on 93 premium gas.. the only mod is the DIY stock intake mod and a racing beat exhaust system.

i still have warrantee on the car so i towed it to the dealership but it was just in there last week and the mazda experts there said my car was in perfect shape that i just needed to add a lil more oil so i dunno about them.

heres a vid that i recorded as it was happening.

That smoke looks hella white, but not sure, videos make it difficult to see for sure. Have you checked your coolant level? I couldn't tell, but is the car completely warmed up?

White Smoke
This is caused by coolant/water in the combustion chamber. This is commonly a sign of O-ring failure.

Blue smoke is caused by burning oil. The question is where the oil is coming from, and how does it get into the combustion chamber

All my coolent and everything is filled because i took it in to the dealership last week to get my broken visor replaced so they did that mazda inspection. the only thing that came up was that i needed a lil more oil so i added it..

also i let the car warm up and i hadnt driven it tell it got under 1000 rpms and this happens as soon as the car gets started. and while its idleing smoke well jus come out of the exhaust and as soon as i give it more gas the more the smoke comes out.. it didnt do this when i barely started the vehicle this happened after like a mile of driving..

and yes i filmed it on the 3gs lol

unless you have a turbo under the hood (common to smoke with the greddy turbo), I am guessing mazda is going to be giving you a new engine.

damn you really think so?

its gonna suck not having my 8 around if it needs to get replaced? I think i will have a different dealership do it then last time i had these guys work on my silverado they left something unscrewed and my steering went out in the middle of driving it.. it was all bad :X

there isn't much in a rotary engine. so there is very few things that can go wrong. with that said, if anything does go wrong, you pretty much have to pull it and rebuild it. A coolant seal breaking will cause coolant to flow into the engine. You should be able to drive it, but it will likely get worse.

it's not like being in a wreck, a new motor will be just like new (assuming it's properly built, and someone didn't install the seals backwards or something).

They have to prove that the intake was the cause.. but most likely with just CAI and a Cat back they wont void anything. Just be cool with the dealer.

It all depends on how much the dealer has experaince with a rotary.. It took them 5 weeks to replace mine because it was the first rotary they have seen that blew up

Understand, people are asking what is the coolant level *now*, not what it might have been when Mazda finished. Meaning you should check the actual level. Just like with the oil -- mazda said "add a little bit", you added a quart. But did you ever check the actual level when you were done? These things could be important to understand what's going on with your engine.

well today i got a call from the dealer saying that i put too much oil in and that was the problem.. which they told me that i didnt have enoguh so even if i did i dont think an extra half or ful quart would have been this crazy.. but i guess well see what happens in the long run they said theyll clean it out and put new oil in it for 80 bucks which isnt too bad thinkin of the fact that its going to cost me around 60 dollars to tow it back home to do it myself..

WTBRotary!, seriously, 3 new engines in a month? So you had 4 engines in you 8 in a month including the original? That's an awful fast turn around from Mazda on those engine replacements considering lots of posts here say it takes up to a month just for one replacement; are you sure they weren't just handing you back the car after a week each time and telling you that it had a new engine when in reality it was just sitting on their lot for a week?
