Thanks guys, its actually the wires going into the 3 sensors under the intake. Is it just me or do manufactureres like to use the most difficult wire connectors in the areas you have the least room to work with?

That black sensor connector is a BYOTCH!
EDIT: I will mention that the first time I took off the UIM, I detached the two bolts under the UIM that holds the Oil filler tube. This took an hour. DO NOT do this. Just undo the nuts near the dipstick (use some electrical tape in the socket to hold yer nuts) take off the oil filler with the UIM.
Also label the middle vacuum line and its connector. One already has some white paint matching an identical dot on the switch. The other remains black.

LOL yup, it was the black one that gave me the most trouble.

I have one, but I think its a cheap version. The instructions are always vauge and show a crappy unhelpful illustration.
The page for removing the intake manifold was like:
Removal of intake manifold:
1. Remove intake manifold
2. Re-install in reverse order
3. Profit!
-Insert picture of random under hood object here-

I just noticed that you live in Spring Hell! I grew up there. Went to Springstead; grad '89.
PM me your email and I will send you a chapter from my service manual. You can check and see if it is the same one. If it is a better one, can send you all the chapters that I have.

Theres a bolt under the bracket for the fuel lines(or airlines, or whatever) right behind the throttle body. IMHO its the hardest bolt you will encounter in the rx8. Its on the reverse side under the bracket. I suggest a set of ratcheting combination wrenches to undo it.

sorry for reviving this...
Should those two bolts that hold the bracket that holds the two lines cause a vacuum leak if they are not screwed in? (the bracket behind the throttle body under the intake track/hard to reach bolts)

Are you reffering to the pictures I attached below? The bracket (which, by the way, doesn't take an hour to remove as stated above your post) is just there to hold the tubes and will not cause leaks, but you will need to bolt the UIM back down to that part of the oil filler tube to keep it secured. And if you broke the plastic clamps that attaches to it, just ziptie those to keep both clipped in place with that bracket. I wouldn't neglect leaving those tubes hanging/flopping around, though.

No. But they are easy to get too. Time to buy some tools But I always remove both pieces as one unit anyway. Take like 5 minutes.

Well then thats not obviously causing my lean issue. i didn't bother to take the whole tract off while replacing the ssv/solenoid. the real reason i asked is because my "data logger" (aka elms 327 bluetooh adapter/torque) suggest nothing abnormal as my afr's,vac, cat temp, STFT/LTFT etc numbers show "normal" numbers. But, the car struggles or chokes from about 4500-6800, then explodes to 9000rpm like nothings wrong. im just trying to narrow things down, to cat, fuel pump/line, or maybe stuck throttle body etc. (oh, this is me girlfriends car, soooo)
