The question was because I wasn't aware of the difference in size. I saw the original, but I never looked at the new one. Now I'm curious.

Adding 12.9 gallons of fuel to get the curb weight gives just about 2960 pounds, which is what has been reported up top. Is our weight with or without the new heavier battery?

fyi, tirerack.com's spec sheet on the re040 says the 225/45/18 weighs 28 lbs. not 26.

per Bridgestone's website, they say 26lb, and since they make the tire I thought they would be the best source.

i see your point, but i'd trust tirerack's data over a manufacturer's tire data. the tirerack's in a position to verify such data and manufacturers often embellish a bit. i guess we need someone to put a re040 on a digital scale.

it might also be a good idea to list the source of the weight data you supply for better transparency.

My RE040's are sitting in garbage bags under my deck waiting for spring (I couldn't afford both the snows AND new wheels for them in one shot). If I remember it I'll weigh one this weekend.

According to my digital bathroom scale (1/2 lb resolution) the RE040s are 27.5 lb. They don't have more the 4k miles on them, so wear shouldn't be an issue.

I noticed you didn't have the stock cat weight. Am I right to assume you mean stock cat/midpipe for that?

Anyways, I got 23.4 pounds when I weighed the stock midpipe.

Has anyone found out the weight savings for an aluminum radiator? Or is there any.

Bigger.....

Don't think there would be a saving from a good aftermarket aluminum rad - the stock is also aluminum, plus the new one would have more tube area, more fins, and hold more fluid.

LOL, the entire A/C system from the firewall forward (engine bay area) is only 18 lb. including all the pipes/hoses, condensor, idler pulley assembly, A/C drive pulley, drive belt, and bolts. Mazda didn't leave much there, the pipes/hoses are amazingly light. Probably not worth it except for the most serious efforts, but it's already out now ...

should have the front cloth seat weights soon

I verified the OE intake weight listed, fwiw the air box insulator shield is 3 lbs for those who choose to leave it in place like for the Umnitza intake, it was included in the larger total weight number

edit: deleted a bunch of comments, not really appropriate to have general discussion in this thread

Only 18 pounds eh? That's kind of lame. I remember when I removed it on my 2nd gen rx7, so many people were quoting 50 pounds for the AC alone. Well after it was all out I weighed everything and it was about 23 pounds heh. Oh well, the AC system was dead anyways so I wasn't using it.

I figured the rx8 system would be light, and 18 pounds sounds about right. Maybe some day I'll take that plunge, I'm running out of the "simple" things to remove weight. I can live without AC

why not install it(battery) in the trunk?

I'd be interested to know the weights of these items:

front rebar
airbags
steering wheel
trunk
stock shift ****
full antifreeze container

In fact I'm a bit concerned about getting too much weight off the front end. The majority of weight coming out will impact the front weight balance more than the rear.

None of the stuff you have listed is coming out for me, sorry ...
How much weight have you removed from the front? I know you have the titanium exhaust and I suspect you removed the jack, ect. Having a little more weight in the rear is not all that bad. In fact, it's better for traction imo.

Is this a dedicated auto x car or do you daily drive it also? No point in running duals unless it's for looks.
