What does a used engine like this go for?

So to further my rotary knowledge I naturally want to rebuild one. So I found a used one of craigslist for 275obo with all the pullies and oil pump. No intake manifold but it would come with headers. The guy says it was pulled from a formula one car but it was running fine when they pulled it out.
Think it's worth the 250 or so id be willing to pay for it?

Odds are its from a older style Formula Mazda or Star Mazda. It's most likely similar to a second generation RX-7 engine. $275 is a decent price. You could likely part it out and be ahead. If its a Renesis from a modern Star Mazda then it's a great deal.

RX8's are formula one cars?

I just don't see that.
Haha have some faith in your 8!
And somehow I don't think it was an 8 that they were using as the formula car.

I believe he said it was in fact a Multi Side port. That can only mean the latter right? Here's a pic. Looks beat to **** but hey.. Don't judge a motor by it's housing.

Now that I research it. All those ports leads me to believe it's of an earlier model.
That's not an 8 engine is it..?

Can any techies out there identify what model it is? if it's not too old I still want it.

Intake ports are on the side, thus probably mistaken as a "multi-side port"; however, the open exhaust peripheral ports give it away as an older engine. This is not a Renesis.

Yes, that is an RX7 6port engine. For that price, I don't think you'll find it in running condition.

What do they go for rebuilt?

I'm mainly buying it for the rotary experience. I figure if I can rebuild that I can rebuild a 13b-msp Reni.
