what the hell did I break.. what does it do?
I was vaccuming up in the car and the top of the thing hit this plastic piece that sits right above the clutch pedal.. there is a box with a grey plastic thing about the diameter of an ink pen, when the clutch is pressed in, this plastic thing is let out of the box its attached to, when the clutch is returned/let off, it goes back inside the box (green tab on the top of the clutch hits it, makes it move in).. what is that, what does it do? I drove it around the block and nothing seemed different.. but nontheless its broken off, so to the little box the plastic thing goes in and out of, it thinks the clutch is depressed ALL the time now.
I superglued it back, and it seems to be fine temporarily.. ugg..
thanks

Yup, it's the cruise control sensor. If it is actually broken, your cruise control won't function.
There should be another one that engages when the clutch pedal is fully depressed telling the car that the transmission is fully disengaged so you can start the car. Car won't start without that one.

Thanks guys.. A little superglue fixed it right up.. it puts pressure on it when the clutch is released so it held itself inplace nicely until it dried..
The cruise WILL WORK with the thing broken off tho, but when I took it out of gear, the throttle still stays engaged obviously.. could get around it by cancelling the cruise b4 changing gears.. or just get the darn thing fixed.. a lil superglue was a good alternative.
thanks again

Wow, it works without that switch. That is pretty interesting. Alot of cars have that switch read the position as the clutch being up. This one must be reading the clutch as depressed. Neat. Thanks for the info.
