What motor OIL should my RX8 have?

First of all, I tryed to search. sorry for overthreading.

Question is:

What oil?

I've heard that you should ONLY use the only oil mazda recommends, DEXELIA ULTRA 5w-30. ..and the problem is that my local MAzda dealer said that he couldt order less than 40 litres with that oil from the manufacturer, and I had to buy all the litres becouse noone had RX-8 around here, so they couldnt get rid of the oil... :/ And I dont want to have 40litres of oil under my bed...

SO I went to another carshop, and he said to me that I should buy the "CASTROL - EDGE sport 0w-40.
Im from norway and its hot in the summer, and cold in the winter. And I reconsider myself as a medium agressive driver.
(is it ok with 0-40 or should I have 5-30 ? )

And IF all of you guys recommends the castrol oil, im going to start using that.
And Im also filling up some centilitres in the motor just to compensate for the usually little oil consumption the motor had the last 2-3 weeks.
(the thing Im trying to say is: - is it ok to mix a dexelia ultra 5-30 oil with an castrol -edge sport 0-40 ?

Well.. that was to very important questions for me.. I want to only give my rotary the best quality.

Heh, getting everyone to agree will be impossible. Motor oil choice is probably the single most debated subject here on rx-8 club. Personally, given that you live in Norway, I'd recommend you change oil weight for summer and winter. 0W for winter and 5W for summer should be good. For the 0W I'd probably run the Group IV Mobil 1 0W-40, Castrol Edge 0W-40 is Group III. For summer, well european choices are quite different but I am going to go with Elf Excellium 229.5 5W-30 which is also Group IV.

First, buy a Sohn adapter, you use a different oil source for combustion chamber lubrication. This will allow you use oil that is designed to burn cleanly where you need it to burn cleanly and oil that is designed not to burn where you need it not to burn. Use Redline 5w40 for the engine internal lubrication and run Redline smokeless 2-stroke oil through the sohn and pre-mix a little (4oz. per tank should be good).

And, you aren't putting dirty oil into your combustion chamber. You don't drink what you bathe in, why should your engine?

RotaryFiend, dont make things too complicated for newbs

As you can see, he is having a hard time to decide which oil to use already, do you think he will be able to do the Sohn adapter right now?

jonr- :
- You can use 0w-40
- Yes it will mix well with your oil dexelia ultra 5-30
- oil consumption depends on the load of your car. if you floor it every 5 minutes, You will burn a quart in as little as 30 minutes.

I switched to Royal Purple 5w30 (don't know if its available there) after reading countless threads here. I really wanted to go GTX 20w50 but all the Mazda led misinformation has kept me from making that leap.

If the dealer told you, you had to buy all the oil, they are full of it. It's not like you are never coming back. Someone could be coming through town and need an oil change for their car. This is just a ploy for them to get you to buy something, 'oil' so they can charge you the markup for the whole amount they order. I would not go back to them again.

I dont burn that mucn

I am a pretty aggressive driver. I have an 04 GT 6mt and have not seen what everyone has been talking about. I drove my 8 3,000 miles this month and I added a total of a quart over the a month and a half. It's close to the top and been there for 1,000 miles.

Is the amount a little bit over exagerated or is my car different?

if u keep it @ high rpm, u will use a lot of oil.

u're ok at that rate

what u want the omp NOT to pump ya any oil or something ? cuz that means ur motor will die sooner rather than later
