What are there diffences in the years? Any years better?

Looking for some info. Im researching the Rx8 for my Mom. She is set on buying one (had two gen one Rx7s) so Im just trying to help. She wants a six speed of course

Is there any years to stay away from? Any years have better tech or gear than others?

The reason I ask is because the Ls1 Fbodies (which I have) have a some different things going on certain years.

like 99+ had the better ECU
01-02 had the way better ls6 intakes for example.

Those are the kind of things Im looking for.

Also looking for power numbers through out the years.

Thanks ahead of time for the help guys.

She would be getting an older one, not a newer one. Should have said that

I'm not the expert, but still have opinions. I'd aim for 06 or later, and hold out for one with low miles (since many are 3rd "hobby" cars, it's not too hard to find one like that, esp up north where many aren't driven winters.). Make sure the MSP-16 reflash has been done at the dealer, since it solved some starting problems and upped the oil injection rate. Manual or auto? They went to a 6-sp auto in 06 too, the previous ones were 4 speed. Power is the same: 232 (manual) 212 (auto) for 04-present. Be sure it makes sense for her (not just you). While rather cheap to buy used, an RX-8 can get pricey to keep running, esp if you know little about car mechanicals. I think most people would agree that while the RX-7 gen 1 & 2 were generally bulletproof, the RX-8's Renesis is not in the same league (it pulls 2x the hp of gen 1 with the same displacement). Do a lot more research in the forum before you decide.

'05 base is the best competition car, avoid 04s like teh plague, ^^^ 212 hp out of an '04 auto? In your sloppiest wet dreams maybe ... lol
