Whats so good about Carbon Fiber Clutch?

This question just came out of nowhere inside my brain so ...

yeah, whats so good about Carbon Fiber Clutch ? Like Exedy's Twin plate.

All I know is that they are very durable and can withstand almost #$32804012384 Heat.

and bad thing is the cost.

Anything else? How does the pedal feel? Anybody know ?

Had one on a R32....the thing was great when it was warm.....kinda stupid cold...you had to slip it to warm it up....after that it was bullet proof

They are very light...and strong...but abused they can break....

Very pricey.....not sure they are an advantage over a light carbon kevlar/metal PP combo for a real world application

Dan, what (wondering) does the CF Clutch Plate do to the Fly Wheel and or Pressure Plate?..any marks or scorching??

I guess you renew the PP at the same time?

They're pretty much ideal for a clutch:

1) They're very light
2) They've got a very good friction co-effiecent, so you can use a fairly soft spring = light pedal
3) They have a lot of internal damping so they engage as smoothly as an OEM organic clutch
4) Because they contain solid lubricants as part of their makeup, they're pretty light on the flywheel facing too.
5) They can take so much heat that the aluminium clutch basket overheats before the clutch does.
6) Because the friction bond is more chemical than mechanical based, wear rates are fairly good too.

True Carbon to carbon clutches are really pricey $4k AND WAY UP...there are ones like the Carbonetics and Exedy that are below $3k....

they handle the heat and wear better, carbon-carbon is not the same as carbon fiber, carbon-carbon is what they use on the nose cone of ballistic missiles to handle the atmospheric re-entry heat and provide better accuracy, it's much more expensive due to the manufacturing complexities but handles the heat and wear of a small diameter multi-disc racing clutch better than anything else

Thx for all the information guys

Ok, so does that mean :

- Its the same if not lighter than clutch pedal feel (depends on who make them? material?)
- It probably last forever, it should last longer than typical Stock/Organic at least?
- Its pretty easy on Flywheel surface
- Its going to be expensive.

correct ?

Speaking of Carbonetic, I knew that brand from a Magazine, they have Single, Twin, and Triple C/C (Carbon Carbon like Team said?) clutches for RX-8. Anybody use Carbonetic stuff before ? good stuff ?

It was for a rally car though, they pay for themselves over time in that kind of use.

Will do! I will be the first one I know of running this clutch. It was not as much $$ as I expected and comes with a lightweight flywheel as well.

The flywheel is 9.9 lbs with a total weight of just 20.1 lbs for the whole kit. It should add some zoom zoom.
