Where does your clutch safety switch trip?

I had my clutch pedal replaced last week for a squeak. The squeak is gone and the clutch works nicely, although I noticed that it has to be held right against the floor for the car to crank. I never noticed this before, although I've only had the car for a month.

How high off the floor can you hold your clutch pedal before the starter interlock won't allow the car to crank?

to be honest, I think our South African market RX8's are different. I can start standing outside the car putting my hand through window.
Maybe it is disabled but not as far as I know, I think we dont have that function

if your switch is broken or stuck in, it will always start. That being said, you should lose cruise control too since it disables if the clutch is engaged.

My clutch must be floored before i can crank.

I'd never thought to try anything but right to the floor.

I think NA market 8 (or all stick shift) cars got this *safety feature* build in.

Wink Adjust....

It's adjustable if it bugs you, it is the switch at the bottom of the clutch travel (obviously!) and has the black body/white plunger.

South African (and the rest of the civilized world) models would not have to push the clutch in to start - it is a legal thing in North America only, to prevent you running thru the garage wall, then suing Mazda. Purely lawyer-driven.

The clutch switch that disables cruise is an unrelated one, at the top of the clutch travel (duh!) with a red body/black plunger, also adjustable.

After reading your post , Im thinking

I might be able to get the Remote start thing from Japan, and install it to my 8 ? Just need to disable(remove) the push in clutch to start car thing, right ?

any chance this will bring the clutch closer to the seat? i'm only 5'2" and hate having to drive so close to the steering wheel in order to floor the clutch pedal.
